Waste Management: Importance and Benefits of Waste Recycling

Waste management involves collecting, transporting, disposing of, and monitoring waste to prevent harm to humans and the environment. Methods of waste management include incineration, which is burning waste, and sanitary landfills. Recycling waste is also important as it uses waste materials to make new products, reducing the need for raw materials while controlling pollution and conserving natural resources. Recycling has additional benefits such as creating jobs, saving energy compared to using raw materials, and lowering product prices.

Waste management

Waste management is collection, transport, disposal, managing and monitoring waste

materials so that it does not cause harm to human beings and environment. Waste is
anything that we no longer need and discard. There are many methods of waste
management such as incineration and sanitary landfills etc.

Incineration means simply burning the waste. Practiced in countries where landfills are not
possible as they take up a lot of space

Recycling of waste is another great method of waste management. Recycling is using waste
material to make new useful products. This is done to reduce the use of raw materials that
would’ve been used. Recycling uses very less energy and helps control air, water and land
pollution.

Importance and benefits of waste recycling

Recycling is beneficial in many ways including:

Recycling helps protect the environment:

This is because the recyclable waste materials would have been burned or ended up in the landfill. Pollution
of the air, land, water and soil is reduced.

Recycling conserves natural resources:

Recycling more waste means that we do not depend too much on raw (natural) resources, which are already
massively depleted.

Recycling saves energy:

It takes more energy to produce items with raw materials than from recycling used materials. This means we
are more energy efficient and the prices of products can come down.

Recycling creates jobs:

People are employed to collect, sort and work in recycling companies. Others also get jobs with businesses
that work with these recycling units. There can be a ripple of jobs in the municipality.
