Casio FX-991 ES-PLUS Instruction Manual

The Casio FX-991 ES-PLUS is a scientific calculator with a lot of advanced functions. It
is capable of performing the most basic of calculations to the calculations required by
advanced studies. This manual will teach you how to operate the Casio FX-991 ES-PLUS.
This manual is intended for individuals who have at least some knowledge and
understanding about basic math and arithmetic.

Safety Precautions

Battery
• Keep batteries out of the reach of small children.

Handling Precautions

• Even if the calculator is operation normally, replace the battery at least

once every two years. A dead battery can leak, causing damage to and
malfunction of the calculator. Never leave a dead battery in the calculator. Do not
try using the calculator while the battery is completely dead.

• Avoid use and storage of the calculator in areas subjected to temperature

extremes, and large amounts of humidity and dust.

• Do not subject the calculator to excessive impact, pressure or bending.

• Never try to take the calculator apart.

• Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the calculator.

• Whenever discarding the calculator batteries, be sure to do so in

accordance with the laws and regulations in your particular area.

Key Markings

In this instruction manual, calculator keys/buttons will be expressed as the printed key
label enclosed inside open and closed braces “[“ and “]”. For example, the button in
figure 2 will be called [sin] in the following instructions.

Pressing the [SHIFT] or [ALPHA] key followed by a second key performs the alternate
function of the second key. The alternate function is indicated by the text printed above
the key [see figure 2].

The following shows what the different colors of the alternate function key text mean.
If key marking text is this color: It means this:
Yellow Press [SHIFT] and then the key to access
the applicable function.
Red Press [ALPHA] and then the key to input
the applicable function.

Removing the Hard Case

Before using the calculator:

1. Slide its hard case downwards to remove it
2. Affix the hard case to the back of the calculator as shown in figure 3.

Turning Power On

To turn the calculator on:

1. Press [ON] (See Figure 4 for the button location)

Turning Power Off

To turn the calculator off (See Figure 5 for the location of the buttons):
1. Press [SHIFT] [AC] (OFF)

2. Press [AC] (OFF)

Auto Power Off

• The calculator will turn off automatically if you do not perform any operation for
about 10 minutes. If this happens, press the [ON] key to turn the calculator back
on.

Initializing the Calculator

Perform the following procedure when you want to initialize the calculator and return the
calculation mode and setup to their initial default settings.
Note that this operation also clears all data currently in calculator memory.
1. Press [SHIFT].
2. Press [9] (CLR).

Using the Calculator to Add

1. Input the first number in addition using the number buttons

2. Press [+]
3. Input the second number in addition using the number buttons
4. Press [=]

Using the Calculator to Subtract

Using the Calculator to Multiply
