Master of Education

Required Documentation
(All required documentation MUST be submitted by the APPLICATION DEADLINE)

 Application and application fee;

 Official transcripts from ALL post-secondary institutions attended; (note that it is not necessary
to provide official transcripts of any work completed at the University of Manitoba).

 Copy of Marriage Certificate or of other official evidence indicating name change applicable only
to those who have a change of name which differs from that on the academic record or other
documentation.

 For specializations: Studies in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning; Language and Literacy; and
Second Language Education. A letter of introduction describing, in detail, your specific research
interest(s), why you have chosen this field of study for your Master of Education program, and
whether your initial plans are to take a thesis or course-based route.

 For specializations: Adult and Post-Secondary Education; Counselling Psychology; Cross-


cultural, Sociological, and Philosophical Foundations in Education; Educational Administration;
and Inclusive Education. A typewritten, double spaced statement, maximum 500 words, in
support of your application for admission. Address the following categories (and any additional
areas) in any order you wish.
1. Professional experience (comment on any relevant work experience),
2. Personal qualities related to your career objectives,
3. Reasons for study and plans for completion; this should include both whether you intend
to study part-time or full-time, and whether your initial plans are to take a thesis or
course-based route to the degree.
4. Career interests and objectives.
N.B. This statement is an important component of your application, and we ask that you
pay attention to both form and content.

 Two letters of reference (submitted via the online system);

 Evidence of work experience (eg. resume);

 English Language Proficiency Test (see Graduate Application for Admission for details).

Occasional Students
(Occasional Students are individuals wishing to take graduate courses, with no intention of applying those courses
towards an advanced degree at the University of Manitoba (see Graduate Calendar for details)

 Application and application fee;

 Official transcripts from ALL post-secondary institutions attended; (note that it is not necessary
to provide official transcripts of any work completed at the University of Manitoba).

 Copy of Marriage Certificate or of other official evidence indicating name change applicable only
to those who have a change of name which differs from that on the academic record or other
documentation).

 A letter stating which course(s) is/are to be taken with a reason for wanting to take the course(s)

 English Language Proficiency Test (see Graduate Application for Admission for details).

Visiting Students
(Visiting Students are students, who are registered at another university, who are taking one or more courses at the
University of Manitoba on a Letter of Permission from their home university)

 Application and application fee;

 Official transcripts from current post-secondary institutions attending; (note that it is not
necessary to provide official transcripts of any work completed at the University of Manitoba).

 Copy of Marriage Certificate or of other official evidence indicating name change applicable only
to those who have a change of name which differs from that on the academic record or other
documentation).

 Letter of permission from home university;

 English Language Proficiency Test (see Graduate Application for Admission for details);

 For those applying under the Western Canadian Deans’ Agreement only the Western Deans’
Agreement form is required (no fee required).

Normally, Master of Education Departmental Application Deadline Dates apply. Consult with
Education Advisor for further details.
