One Way Slab

The document provides information on uniformly distributed loads (UDL) for concrete slab design. It gives the density of reinforced concrete as 24 kN/m3. It calculates the UDL for a 1m wide strip of a 150mm thick slab as 3.6 kN/m. It also calculates the UDL along the longitudinal direction of a beam with dimensions given as 2.43 kN/m and 19.08 kN/m. Tables with physical properties of reinforcement bar sizes and cover requirements are also included. An example calculation for a simply supported one-way slab with spans of 5m and 1.2m subjected to dead and live loads is shown, with bending moment and shear force results.

k' = 0.402 x (ßb - 0.4) - 0.18 (ßb-0.4)2

ßb = 0.9
k' = 0.156
k' > k
Hence singly r/f design.

8110-1:1985
Ac = b h

Therefore provide As,req

Number of bars = As,req

Select T 12 @ 150 mm c/c

` 150

ii. Maximum spacing

Maximum sapacing, s ≤ 3d or 750 mm which ever lesser
Cl 3.12.11.2.7,
BS 8110-1:1985 3d = 657 mm
s ≤ 657 mm
150 ≤ 657
Hence minimum spacing rule is satisfied.

Spacing = 1000

Select T 12 @ 200 mm c/c
As,prov = 1000 x 113
` 200

Check for 3d rule for distribution bars,
d = h - Ø - Ø/2 - cover
= 207 mm
3d = 621 mm
s = 200 mm
s ≤ 3d
Hence minimum spacing rule is satisfied for distribution bars

F1 = 1.55 ≤ 2
Table 3.12, BS Modification factor for compression r/f,
8110-1:1985 A's,prov = 0.0
F2 = 1.0

All (s /d) = 31
All (s /d) ≥ Act (s / d)

Hence deflection check is satisfied.

iv. Shear Check

v ≤ min ( 0.80 √ fcu , 5 ) = 4.0
vmax ≤ 4.0
Hence maximum shear check is satisfied.

Design concrete shear stress = vc

400 = 1.8 >1
d
vc = 0.51 N/mm2
vmax < vc
Hence shear is not critical.
