PIN-diode D12 conducts during tonsmission in order to attenuate the residual transmitter signal from the Tik-switeh (on die tansmitter P.A. board) further. The filter ic step-tuned across the VHF band with diodes DLO and DIL. After filtering, the signal is amplified in Q4, which is optimised to linear performance through voltage feedback (R27 and R30). Afier amplification the signal passes another tuneable filter L6, L7 before reaching the Gilbert cell type mixer IC6. This is @ high level balanced mixer to comply with base station requirements for intermodulation rejection. The combined RF filter is approximately 5 MHz in bandwidth. The eentre frequency bf the combined filter automatically tracks the selected channel - the band voltage applied to the filter, generated in TP204/TP207, is changed appropriately ‘The injection to the mixer stage is generated in the VCO, which eonsists of oscillator transistor Q2 and isolator stage Ql. The circuit is a common base Colpitts configuration with base bias Stabilised through diode D3. Diode D2. driven by the band vuluye, tics dhe VCO to the appropriate operational frequency band and diode D4 fine tunes the VCO through PLL circuit 1C2 and the associated loop filter. Transistor QI is series-DC coupled to Q2 to save current, but acts as a common base buffer with high isolation. In the VHF band, the injection frequency is 45 MHz above receiver frequency. The VCO's operating range is therefore 191 - 219 MHz. RC filter RI C2 attenuates noise from the hand voltage as the supply to the VCO band input ust be very clean to avoid noise modulation of the VCO. DI shorss RI during large frequency changes (channel shifis) in order to speed-up lock time. The VCO output is fed to the PLL circuit 1C2, which locks the signal w dhe desived Hequeney according to the serial data from TP204/TP207. The VCO signal is also fed to amplifier stage Q3 through isolation resistor R12. This stage has a tuned collector circuit in order to remove any broadband noise component from the oscillator. From the mixer output the signal passes erystal filters XF1 and XF2. The image sig icjecied at this stage. The siyual path is then into the sccond IF, integrated cireuit IC1. Q8 performs low-noise amplification end impedance transformnation to the filter. In ICL the converted receiver signal is mixed with a signal of 4455 MHz derived from multiplication of the reference oscillator frequency by 3. Reference oscillator Q7 1s erystal controlled on 14.85 MHz and is used in both RX and TX synthesisers. The collector circuit of QT isa bandpass filter tuned to the third harmonic of the crystal frequency The sccond IF signal of 450 KHz passes a ceramic filter with linear phase response to allow data siguals to pass with minimum distrtive. ICI performs the main receiver amplification and finally feeds the signal to an internal quadrature detector and a received signal strength indicator (RSSI). The demodulated audio passes a buffer amplitier [C3.A, but any further audio processing takes place elsewhere. ‘The RSSI is a DC voltage proportional to the strength of the antenna signal. IC3B amplifies the gst signal © a 0 ~ 3 V level and this voltage a lzo uzed to cot the qualeh level with PL. The ‘queleh output is an open collector which requires a pull up resistor NR. When the noise squelch board TP240 is used, the RSSI squeleh funetions in parallel ith the noise squelch. In this ease, the RSSI squelch can be disabled by turning PI fully clockwise. Transmitter: ‘The transmitter signal is generated in the TX VCO which is identical to the RX VCO except for the frequency range, This oscillator is also course and fine tuned by the band voliage and PLL respectively. The loop filter time constant is much longer than in the RX VCO to allow for the ow frequency component in data transmission. Lhe IX VCO is normally continuously powered-up and in lock. When TX and RX frequencies are identical the TX VCO is disubled ‘ntil the KEY line is pulled high. Then the collector of Q16 goes low and turns QI5 on, enabling the VCO. In the TX frequency = RX frequency mode. the PROM set-up program automatically sets output port B of [C12 (pin 15) high. In all other cases, i. duplex operation, pin 15 is‘low, pulling the collector of QI7 low and enabling the VCO by turing QUS on. This arrangement allows for very fast RX/TX shifting on duplex channels because the VCO is always in lock. The VCO signal first passes a cascade butfer / isolator stag further in a gain stage, QI4, to a level of 3dBm. Q12 and Q13, then is amplified Transistors Q20 and Q21 and surrounding components form a dual-loop circuit. During receiving the TX synthesicer loop is fast because Q20 shorts R100 to eround. Immediately after keying the transmitter, the loop gradually becomes slower because C122/C123 charges to a level where the current in R100 becomes zero, leaving only R99 to determine loop bandwidth. This amangement speeds up the initial lock time when the transmitter is keyed up, while still maintaining the slow loop needed for data transiuission. The PLL lock detector D20, QIS and QI9 inhibits TX until VCO is in lock. In the out of lock condition, the LD output of [C12 (pin 2) goes low, turning on QL8 which pulls the base of Q 19 high. QI9 tums on, pulling a possible keying voltage from R95 low and disabling the transmitter, 23Sdesc2 sam ouvaat=a |—|— “| zuasezay [ee ye Ere aes 2 | ora: —|eiasezas “* ms = obey dil oo PopZdL X17H oUt Gd 6) snidleey “Ny an1yO XL | abe rer door x a PARTS LIST PAGE: 1of2 Subject: TP235D2 SMD assembly Date: 17-06-97 Sign: VHF _Receivertrasmiver for TPS000 miro and éaaratio EI Poston 10, Sirk on Coons Sets 21 oss ia eam 5 & esta Ss ey SS RUG EDA, EERE. If used with a 16 channel PROM (825137), pin 8 of the PROM (IC8) must be grounded. This can be done by shorting pins 8 and 9. ‘The channel control logic converts parallel BCD channel information to serial data to RX and TX synthesisers. IC6 is a quad exclusive OR that senses a change in channel bits. IC9D is a power ON reset circuit. When one of these conditions arise, a very short negative going pulse ‘on base of Q6 resets counter IC7. Via O6 clock oscillator IC9C starts to clock the counter and the PROM address through a 64 bit cycle. When the counter again reaches the value 64, the oscillator stops and the counter is normally held at this address, During the 64-bit cycle the four outputs of the PROM has provided both synthesisers with clock, enable and data for the new channel information. The PROM is enabled only during this short programming cycle via Q7. Part of the RX data in the PROM also contains data for IO10 which is a Rehit serial to parallel shift register. Thesc 8 bits hold the bandswitch information and is presented as two four-bit nibbles. [C11 and two binary coded resistor networks convert the digital data to two analog voltages used for coarse tuning of the receiver/transmitier. Electronic switch IC13a mutes the RX audio path when the SQ line is active (low). Opamp [C3 performs a 300 Hz highpass filter, deemphasis (R43,C21), and an adjustable line level to the RX voice terminal. From the TX voice terminal, opamp IC2 performs a 300 Hz highpass filter, pre-emphasis (R29, C15) and amplifier/limiter. Q¢ is part of a 3 KHz lowpass filter. After PI the voice signal is susuuied with the data signal from P2 to modulate the transmitter. ICl4 provides a high level, non-switehed and non-deemphasised discriminator output for data. The board is designed arcund the CML FX465 helffduplex CTCSS microcircuit. Two cireuits are used, enabling full duplex operation, TX and RX tones are set up independently by means of DIP switches SWI and SW2. An internal filter in the decoder FX465 attenuates sub band frequencies in the RX AF path. 1C3 supplies SV to all circuits on the board. X1 clocks both the encoder and the decoder. ‘In normal operation, CTCSS OFF (F1-2) is low (not active), and the RX/TX pin of ICL is high, enabling decoder operation. The cont:ol voltave, inverted once more by QS, pulls the RXITX pin of IC2 low, enabling encoder operation. IfJI-2 is high, both the encoder and the decoder are disabled, In the CTCSS OFF active state (high), Déa prevents a false decode output caused by the floating output (RXDECO) on ICI. When the decoder is enabled and a CTCSS tone is detected, RXDECO on [C1 is pulled high. This output is inverted twice (ICSa and [C8a), then tums QI on. pulling DECODE OUT (JI-1) low. There are three enabling inputs for repeater mode operation. REP ON 0 is used when an active low should contol repeater enabling. REP ON 1 is used when an active high is the enabling input. A logical AND operation can also enable repeater operation if' a combination of J1-4 and WG are used. In the simples tone controlled repeater configuration, 11-3 is strapped 0 J1-1. When a valid CTOSS tonc is decoded. the REP ON 0 input goes low, and the ouput of ICéd goes high. An open squelch (carrier detected) turns on Q4, causing the ourput of IC6e to Go high. When the squelen closes, the two RC timers star. The timer comprised of R11, C12 and 1C7a has 2 short time constant of about one second. This timer holds the repeater trensmitter Keyed in the short gaps in aconversation and prevents momentary squelch “chopping” on the transmitter in the case of a weak received signal, The repecter timer (constant ea. 10 seconds) comprised of R12, C13 and ICTb, holds the repeater in the enabled state during the earrier detect and for several seronds after the squieich closes. In the enahled state. no further CTCSS detection is required for ‘continued repeater operation: gates IC7b and IC7A, via Da, hold the enabling line Gunction D22, D2b; 1C7a) high. The output of the TX timer is inverted by IC7c and drives Q5 (voice mod ‘enable output) and Q8/Q7 (TX key). An active TX timer thus results in a low TX VOICE output and a high KEY output. A high (active) on KEY (15-8), whether caused by an externel key or by an aotive repeater controller, turns on gete ICéc, and TX CTCSS tone is present at TX VCO IN (12-3), with the level set by R4. IC4b is a squelch switch in the repeater audio path. The control voltage for this switch comes fom before the timers, so repester auio is muted curing the TX "tails" (hold time of RII. C12. 1C7a). A second switch (1C4a) is used in the repeater audio path to prevent retransmission of RX audio when the repester is not active (ie. when RX signal is precent atthe same time as an external key). An extemal key on the PTT input (51-7) will reset the repeater timer via Q6 = = olay a — e521 TOBINOD WW345U OW sko19 |_| — wy PARTS LIST PAGE: Lof1 Description: CTCSS En-Decoder and Repeater control. It is designed to be used in radios hich operate in envizonments where RF noise would on occasion open the RSSI squelch in the TP235. Receiver audio is fed via RI and R2 to PI, which is used to set the squelch senstivity. The signal then enters @ bandpass filter centered on 7 KHz (ICla, C2, C3, R6, C4). The filtered ant amplified audio is rectified in DIA and DIB and enters comparator [CIB. The comparstor reference level is the DC level on the AF IN pin, filtered by C1, Pl, R2 and Ri ‘When the rectified noise level exceeds the reference level, the comparator output goes high, turning on Q? ard thus pulling the SG line low. Q1 is tumed ou. sluntine RU and increasing the signal level to the filter, Hysterisis is thus introduced. When an on-channel signal is present at the reeciver input, the noise output from the quadrature detector in the TP235 falls and the output from fiectifier DIA / DIB falls. The comparator output goes low, turning off Q2 and allowing the SQ line to go high. Ql tums off and the detected noise level drops, holding the squelch open even ifthe signal input drops slightly Bi eared org dil wiers esten PARTS LIST PAGE: lof 1 Subject: T?240a SMD assembly Date: 29-12-95 Sign: ‘Component Stock no. (ullevers ikke) juss TYPE NUMBER, MEsz09 gL a TP6000B ‘Duplex and base station operation pose | of | Duplex operation ‘As the TP6000 transmitter/receiver is normally used in simplex mode, a T/R switch is inte- grated in the harmonic filter screening compartment. However, the set can also be used in duplex mode. In this case the T/R switch is disabled and a separate coaxial connector is fitted to the radio unit for use as the receiver input, To compensate for the lack of harmonic filtering another lowpass filter is mounted in the receiver input path. For duplex operation on one antenna only, a separate duplex filter should be connected be- ‘oven the two coaxial connectors and the antenna, Itshould be noted that extra cooling is necessary tor continued operation! Base station ‘The TP6000 radio unit is prepared for use as a base station because it already complies with the extra requirements for intermodulation rejection. It can also be fitted with a TCXO for better frequency stability (optional: 2,5 ppm). ‘The TP RADIO BS2000 base station comprises a heavy duty alloy box with cooling fins for continued operation. Inside the box the necessary units are mounted: . ‘TP6000 radio unit duplex filter circulator (for improved TX intermodulation) 4, PS4 power supply (for 220V operation)
