Guidelines for Preparation of Project Report
For MTA Degree

The project report should be presented in the following format only -

a. The report should be printed on A4 size Executive Bond sheet.


b. The font used should be Times New Roman and font size should be 12.
c. The top, bottom and right margins should be 1” each. The left margin should
be set at 2”.
d. The line spacing should be fixed at 1.5 lines.
e. Page numbers should be placed at bottom middle position.
f. Chapters should be numbered as 1, 2, 3, etc. The tables and charts should be
in the format of 1.1, 1.2, etc. i.e. 1.1 indicates that it is the first table in
Chapter 1; 2.1 indicates first table in Chapter 2. Similarly chart no. 1.1
indicates first chart in Chapter 1.
g. The Project Report should be a minimum of 80 pages and should not exceed
100 pages.
h. Students should submit 2 hard copies duly signed by the faculty guide and
the HOD and soft copy in one CD.
i. The hard copy should be in soft binding format with blue thick cover as the
cover page.

The report should be bound with pages in the following sequence –

1. Cover page – Outer cover of the report.


2. Front page – The format of Cover page and Front page should be
the one and the same.
3. Acknowledgement
4. Contents
5. List of Tables
6. List of Figures/Charts
7. List of Abbreviations
8. Appendices

GUIDELINES FOR WRITING CHAPTER WISE REPORT

Organization of the Project Report


This report shall be presented in a number of chapters, starting with Introduction
and ending with Summary and Conclusions. Each of the other chapters will have a
precise title reflecting the contents of the chapter. A chapter can be subdivided into
sections, sub-sections and sub-sub-section so as to present the content discretely
and with due emphasis.

1.1 Introduction
The title of Chapter 1 shall be “INTRODUCTION”. It shall justify and highlight
the problem posed, define the topic and explain the aim and scope of the work
presented in the report. It may also highlight the significant contributions from the
investigation.

1.2 Review of Literature


This shall normally form Chapter 2 and shall present a critical appraisal of the
previous work published in the literature pertaining to the topic of the
investigation. The extent and emphasis of the chapter shall depend on the nature of
the investigation.

1.3 Report on the present investigation


The reporting on the investigation shall be presented in one or more chapters with
appropriate chapter titles.

 Due importance shall be given to experimental setups, methodologies develo


ped and adopted.
 Figures and tables should be presented immediately following their first men
tion in the text. Short tables and figures (say, less than half the writing area
of the page) should be presented within the text, while large table and
figures may be presented on separate pages.

1.4 Results and Discussions


This shall form the penultimate chapter of the report and shall include a thorough
evaluation of the investigation carried out and bring out the contributions from the
study. The discussion shall logically lead to inferences and conclusions as well as
scope for possible further future work.

1.5 Summary and Conclusions


This will be the final chapter of the report. A brief report of the work carried out
shall form the first part of the Chapter. Conclusions derived from the logical
analysis presented in the Results and Discussions chapter shall be presented and
clearly enumerated, each point stated separately. Scope for future work should be
stated lucidly in the last part of the chapter.

1.6 Appendix
Detailed information, observations etc. are to be presented in the separate
appendices, which shall be numbered in Roman Capitals (e.g. “Appendix IV”).
1.7 References
This should follow the Appendices, if any, otherwise the Summary and
Conclusions chapter. The candidates shall follow the style of citation and style of
listing in one of the standard journals in the subject area consistently throughout
his/her report. However, the names of all the authors along with their initials and
the full title of the article/ monogram/ book etc. have to be given in addition to the
journals/ publishers, volume, number, pages (s) and year of publication.

Citation from websites should include the name (s) of the author (s) (including the
initials), full title of the article, website reference and when last accessed.
Reference to personal communications, similarly, shall include the author, title of
the communication (if any) and date of receipt.
