Battery Switch
For reasons of safety and to prevent the electrical
installations from being switched on by unauthorized
persons, a battery switch has been provided
(see Spare Parts List). This switch is installed
in close proximity to the battery. By means of a
removable lever with bajonet joint, the supply of
current from the battery may be interrupted.
Lever removed - Electric circuit broken
Lever replaced - Electric circuit closed
The device has been located within the engine
compartment, in order to render the actuation of
the electrical functions by unauthorized persons
more difficult.
Attention
Do not remove the lever with the
diesel engine running. "Destruction
of the dynam2.3 Light/Tenition Switch
For the light/ignition switch 5 positions are
provided. In the positions 0 and P the key may
be inserted and withdrawn.
After changing to position 1, the charge-indicator
lamp as well as the oil-pressure indicator lamp
must light up. and the starter be ready for operation.
In this position the horn, too, can be actuated.
Key positions: P
0 - oft
1 - Ignition/on
2 - Low Beam
3 - High Beam
2.4 Starting Up the Engine
Also refer to the Instruction Manual for the
Deutz engine.
1. Set the traction main switch to position Stop (0).
2. Set all the switches as well as the potentiometer
for paving to position zero.
3. Set the switch for the engine speed to minimum,
4, Start up the engine by pressing the starter
button; do not actuate the button for more
than 10 seconds.
5. After starting up of the engine, the oil-pressure
lamp and the charge-indicator lamp must extinguish.
6. Run up the engine at minimum speed. This is
important, above all, to ensure impeccable
functioning of the hydraulic aggregates and of
the diesel engine itelf.
OT ee ro
26-7299-91 .2.5 Stopping the Engine
Do not stop the engine abruptly from maximum speed,
but leave it running at minimum speed for a short
time to achieve equalization of the temperature.
Set all the switches as well as the potentiometer
for paving to position zero.
2. Set the traction main switch to position "Stop".
3. Draw the stop button until the engine is standing
still.
4, Set the light/ignition switch to position zero
and withdraw the key.
2.6 Driving and Steering the Paver
The paver type SUPER 1600 is provided with an
electronic control system for traction. For paving
the diesel engine must always be set to the
maximum speed of n = 2150 /min.
Prior to starting up the diesel engine, all the
switches and control buttons are to be set to
zero or stop, resp. After starting up, the engine
shall be left running for a short time at minimum
speed (above all in cold weather), in order to
ensure proper lubrication. Before setting the
paver in motion in the gear for paving, the diesel
engine must be set to maximum speed by means of the
tumbler switch on the control desk (see Section 2.1).
Through the traction main switch the direction of
motion may be preselected, The further functions
of the traction main switch are described in
Section 2.9 of this manual.
OO
26-7299-9120
10One gear is provided for paving and one for transfer,
each of them both for forwards and reverse motion.
With the gear for transfer engaged the road paver may,
after preselection of the direction of motion through
the traction main switch, be set going by depressing
the foot pedal (potentiometer-transfer), The driving
speed is shown on the speed indicator. During transfer
the speed of the diesel engine adapts automatically
to the driving speed.
With the gear for paving engaged, the foot pedal is
rendered ineffective. During paving, the operating speed
is adjusted through the button for speed control
(potentiometer-paving) provided on the control desk.
For reverse motion the traction main switch must be
changed correspondingly (position II) and the push-button,
item 23, be pressed in addition (see Section 2.1 of
this manual).
The speed indicator on the control desk is provided for
both gears. The outer scale shows the operating speed
during paving in m/min., the inner one indicates the
speed during transfer in km/h.
26-7299-9120
1Steering the Paver
By shifting the steering lever, item 2, to the right
or to the left, either the right or the left crawler
track will be slowed down and thus a change in
direction initiated. Due to the separate drive units
the running speed of either crawler track may,
depending on the inclination of the steering lever,
be slowed down continuously until complete standstill.
A change of direction may also be initiated through
the potentiometer, item 13, provided beneath the
steering lever. The use of this potentiometer is
recommended, above all, for precise adaptation of the
direction of motion. It enables, for example, to
follow even long curves with a large radius without
operating the steering lever.
Opposed Motion of the Crawler Tracks
For opposed motion of the crawler tracks (only
possible when reversing) the traction main switch
is to be set to position II. In addition, the
push-button for reverse motion has to be pressed
together with the button for either "crawler/left"
or "crawler/right" provided with the corresponding
symbols on the control desk.
2.7 Shifting Gears
Each crawler track is provided with a separate
hydrostatic drive unit consisting of traction
transmission and variable displacement motor.
Two transmission ratios are provided, one for
paving and one for transfer.
Se
299-9120
12The changing of gears is carried out by 2 shift levers
provided on the operator's stand. Gear change must only
be effected at standstill of the paver. In the event
of tooth on tooth position, the button for speed control
(paving) is to be actuated slightly and set back to
position zero again. Now gears may be engaged. Do not
use force!
In either gear the machine may be moved forwards or
reverse, at an infinitely variable speed, provided that
the traction main switch has been set accordingly and
the corresponding potentiometers are actuated.
Gear for Transfer
For transfer the two shift levers are to be moved to
the right.
Gear for Paving
For paving the two shift levers are to be moved to
the left.

2.8
Parking Brake
Each of the two traction transmission units is
provided with a hydraulically released mltiple-disk
brake, preventing the machine from rolling away at
standstill of the diesel engine. The brake blocks up
the trensmission, whether geared for paving or for
transfer, as soon as the diesel engine is stopped.
After starting up again, the mltiple-disk brake
will be released hydraulically.
For emergency release see Section "Maintenance".
Traction Main Switch
The traction main switch is effective during paving
and during transfer. Three different positions are
provided for connection or discomnection of the
following functions:
Position Stop (0) During Paving
1) The paver is stopped (through disconnection of the
pumps of the hydrostatic traction transmissions).
2) Elimination of the floating position of the
hydraulic rams for the raising and lowering of
the screed, thus preventing the latter from
sinking into the paving material.
3) Disconnection of the Automatic Levelling System.
4) Disconnection of tamper and vibrator, provided
that the corresponding rotary switches on the
control desk are set to position "Automatic",
5) Disconnection of conveyors and spreading screw,
provided that the switches (items 19, 20, 21
and 22) are set to position "Automatic".OGELE
Position Stop (0) During Transfer
Attention! Do not set the switch to this position
during transfer, for full brake application
would result.
During transfer the traction main switch
merely serves to preselect the direction
of motion, forwards or reverse.
Position I (= forwards motion), Gear for Paving
In this position the paver moves forwards at an
infinitely variable speed, as soon as the button for
speed control (potentiometer/paving) is actuated.
Position I (= forwards motion), Gear for Transfer
The paver moves forwards at an infinitely variable
speed, as soon as the foot pedal (potentiometer/transfer)
is depressed.
Position II (= reverse motion), Gear for Pavinj
With the traction main switch set to position IT,
the machine moves backwards at an infinitely variable
speed, as soon as the push-button for reverse motion,
item 23, is pressed and the rotary button for speed
control (potentiometer/paving) actuated.
Position II (= reverse motion), Gear for Transfer
The machine moves backwards at an infinitely variable
speed, if the foot pedal (potentiometer/transfer) is
depressed and the push-button for reverse motion,
item 23, actuated.

2.10 Raising and Lowering of Smoothing Screed
During transfer or when moving between lanes on the
construction site, the side arms of the screed mst
rest on the two locking bolts. Raising and lowering
of the screed is only possible with the screed relief
system disconnected.
Lower:
1.1 Set the engine to operating speed.
1,2 Set the switch on the control desk to position
"Raising", until the hydraulic rams are
completely retracted (the screed -has lifted from
the bolts).
1.3 Retract the locking device by means of the
hand lever.
1.4 Set traction main switch to position I or II.
The screed will lower down (floating position
of the hydraulic rams for raising or lowering
of the screed).
Set the engine to operating speed.
2.2 Set the switch on the control desk to position
"Raising", until the hydraulic rams are
completely retracted.
2.3 Extend the locking bolts by means of the
hand lever.
2.4 Set traction main switch to position I or IT.
The screed will lower down and finally rest on
the locking bolts (floating position of the
hydraulic rams for raising and lowering of
the screed).
If the hydraulic rams are completely extended, so that
the tow points of the side arms are in their lowest
positions, then the maximum ground clearance for the
screed has been reached. This is important when driving
on a rough terrain or when mounting ramps.

162.11 Folding of Hopper Sides
During transfer the hopper
sides must always be folded in
and secured by means of a chain
to be put on them. Before
folding out the sides, the chain
is to be removed and hanged on
the pin provided for it.
After removal of the chain the hopper sides may be
operated by actuating the ‘switch for raising and
lowering, provided on the control desk.
2.12 Operation of Conveyors
The conveyors on the right and on the left may only
be operated during paving. On the control desk two
switches are provided for the separate drive units
of the conveyors, left and right. The switches may
be set to 5 different positions:
Position 0: The conveyor is standing still.
Positions I, IT and IIT:
In these 3 positions the conveyor
moves at 3 constant speeds, i.e. slow,
medium and fast. The switch positions
must always be adapted to the
respective paving conditions.

Operation of Spreading Screw
The screw halves, on the left and on the right, only
operate during paving. On the control desk 2 switches
are provided for the two halves of the spreading
screw. The switches may be set to 5 different
positions:
Position 0: The spreading screw is standing still.
Positions I, IT and Tit:
In these 3 positions the screw halves
operate at 3 constant speeds, i.e. either
slow, medium or fast. The switch positions
are independent of the traction main
switch and must be adapted to the
respective paving conditions.
Position "Automatic"
In this position the speeds of the screw
halves are adjusted automatically and
continuously as a function of the level
of paving material in the screw tunnel.
If in position "Automatic" the paver is
stopped through the traction main switch,
then the spreading screw will be dis-
connected simultaneously.ELE
2.14
Operation of Tamper and Vibrators
Tamper and vibrators must not be switched on before
the hydraulic oil has reached a temperature of
at least 25° C, In the event of hydraulic oil
temperatures below 50° C, care shall be taken that
the tamper will only be switched on with the volume
controlling device for adjustment of the tamper
speed being set to 5 or above. Tamper and vibrators
only operate during paving.
On the control desk (see Section 2.1 of this manual)
two switches are provided for tamper and vibrators.
These switches may be set to 3 positions:
Position "0": Tamper and vibrators are standing still.
Position "Manual":
Tamper and vibrators are in operation,
but they have to be disconnected
manually if the paver is stopped.
Position "Automatic!:
Tamper and vibrators are in operation
and will be disconnected automatically
as soon as the paver is stopped through
the traction main switch.

2.15 Operation of Pressure Bars
Pressure bars are only provided on the Screeds for
High-Power Compaction. They must not be switched on
before the temperature of the hydraulic oil has
exceeded 25° C and the operating pressures for the
two bars were set to their minimum (adjusting knobs
on the pressure relief valves on the screed turned
completely to the left).
n the control desk (see Section 2.1 of this manual)
one switch is provided, which may be set to 3
positions:
Position "0
The pressure bars are disconnected.
Position "Manual":
The pressure bars are in operation,
but they must be disconnected
manually if the paver is stopped.
Position "Automatic":
The pressure bars are in operation
and will be disconnected automatically
as soon as the paver is stopped
through the traction main switch.

202.16
Screed Relief System
On the control desk a switch is provided for
connection and disconnection of the screed relief
system. Attention is to be paid to the fact that
the screed relief system must be switched off
if the screed is to be raised.
Adjustment of the pressure required for the
relief of the screed is carried out manually
through two separate prassure valves.
These pressure valves and the pressure gauges
for adjustment and checking are provided on
either side, and fitted on the rear panel
of the paver just above the mechanical
locking devices of the screed for transfer.
Application
The screed relief system is normally used under
two paving conditions:
1, The system may be switched on if the screed
cannot be supported any more through the
paving material. Such a situation is given
when, in spite of an enlargement of the
screed planing angle, the surfacing thickness
cannot be maintained.
2. Should, under normal paving conditions,
a large screed planing angle appear, then
this will normally lead to higher wear of the
screed plates and of the pressure bars.
In order to decrease this wear the screed relief
system may be switched on for reduction of
the screed planing angle.

are effected though an electronically operated
differential integrated in the control system for
traction. When shifting the steering lever, an
electric signal is emitted by way of the electronics
to the two electrically ajustable proportioning
pressure valves for the hydrostatic drive units,
and a change in direction will be initiated.
Through the potentiometer for the direction of
motion, item 13, provided on the control desk, a
change in direction may also be carried out without
operating the steering lever.
Drive of Conveyors
The drive unit for the conveyors comprises a pump
with flow divider and two individually adjustable
hydraulic motors for the right and the left
conveyor.
The dividing of the oil flow and the control of the
quantity delivered by the pump is effected through
a proportioning directional valve block provided
with two independent valve slides actuated electrically,
for the driving motor of the conveyor on the right
and the one for the conveyor on the left. For each

between 0 and maximum through the corresponding
potentiometer (paving or transfer). Steering as well
as straight motion are carried out through an
electronically controlled differential integrated
in the control system for traction.
When stopping the paver through the traction main
switch, the preselected driving speed will be
maintained if the switch is set back to its
original position.OGELE
For manual operation the two female multipoint connectors
(blue and red) are to be withdrawn from the electronics
for traction, item 31 (Section 3.2.1 of this manual)
and inserted into the control box for manual operation,
item 32 (blue multipoint connector on top, and red

Maintenance Instructions
General Remarks
Due to the design of the road paver and the various
fields of application it is necessary that certain
maintenance and servicing work is carried out daily.
Prior to lubrication, the greasing nipples are to
be cleaned thoroughly.
Proper maintenance and servicing will increase the
operational safety as well as the reliability of
the road paver, and lengthen its service life.
Maintenance Chart
In the Maintenance Chart all lubrication work to
be carried out is indicated. From the attached
Table of Lubricants the greases and oils to be
employed may be seen. The Maintenance Chart and
the Table of Lubricant are annexed to this
Instruction Manual.
ine
All maintenance work to be carried out on the engine
is described in the enclosed Deutz Instruction Manual.
Fuel system
When filling fuel into the fuel tank see to it
that it is free from impurities. Unclean fuel
will lead to premature accumultation of dirt in
the fuel filters and thus to a drop in the output
of the diesel engine. Avoid complete emptying of
the fuel tank. Frequent filling up prevents the
formation of condensed water inside the tank.
See also the attached Deutz Instruction Manual.OGELE|
5.5 Power Divider
The oil level of the power divider is to be checked.
Normally the level should reach up to the middle of the
sight glass. In case of shortage, fill up with the
prescribed type of oil (Table of Lubricants). Quantities
are indicated in the technical data sheet.
Oil changes are only to be carried out at operating
temperature of the gearbox. The screwed magnetic sealing
plug next to the outlet pipe is to be cleaned as well.
The first oil change shall be carried out after 100
service hours, further changes every 1000 service hours,
as described in the Maintenance Chart.
When fitting new pumps, the splined shaft must be greased
with the same type of oil that is employed in the power
divider. Other greases or oils must not be used.
26-7299-9180
25.6 Flexible Coupling
The flexible coupling is located between the
flywheel of the diesel engine and the power divider.
The coupling is maintenance-free. After having
carried out any work, the threaded pin M12 for
the clamping piece of the coupling hub must be
tightened with 80 Nm. Before slipping on the
coupling hub, the splined shaft should be greased
thoroughly.

Traction Transmission
For the two traction transmission units, one common
2-ratio shifting mechanism is provided.
The articulations are to be greased as described in
the Maintenance Chart, and checked for smooth
movability. A shight glass is provided on each of the
transmission units for the checking of the oil level,
which should reach up to the middle of the glass.
O41 changes are to be carried out as indicated in
the Maintenance Chart, and the screwed sealing plug
be cleaned at the same time. Oi1 quantities are
indicated in the technical data sheet.

5.8.1
Crawler Unit
The crawler unit is maintenance-free. Only the tension
of the crawler tracks should be checked from time to
time, and the driving chains be greased in conformity
with the Maintenance Chart.
The correct tension of the tracks is of utmost
importance, for a too tight or a too loose track will
lead to increased wear. The track shoes are articulated
by means of bolts and bushings. The tighter the track,
the higher will be the pressure in the articulation
points and the greater the wear, This is why excessive
tensioning must be avoided. In case of a correctly
tensioned track, the disk at the end of the spring
assembly (crawler take-up) should have a play of
1-5 m.
A too loose track, on the other hand, also leads to
higher wear. During reverse motion of the paver, the
teeth of the sprocket must not hit the bushings, but
engage perfectly in between them. In case of a
collision between teeth and bushings both elements will
be rapidly damaged. Too loose crawler tracks furthermore
cause that, when turning the paver, the track shoes
will be subjected to increased wear at their sides
which, in the end, also leads to premature damaging.
The wear occurring between bolts and bushings appears
in the tractive direction of the crawler track. As a
result of this wear, the pitch of the track becomes
larger and does not match any more the pitch of the
sprocket wheel. Even greater wear will be the result.
This is why care must be taken that crawler tracks
used for a longer time are never laid onto a new
sprocket wheel.

Tensioning and Loosening of the Crawler Track
Through the front idler and the cralwer take-up
the correct tension of the crawler track will be
maintained. The crawler take-up is composed of a
grease cylinder and a prestressed spring assembly.
For the purpose of tensioning the crawler track,
a grease nipple is to be screwed onto the conical
non-return valve, and grease pressed into the cylinder
by means of a pump. Thus the cylinder will be
displaced forwards and increase the tension of the
crawler track by way of the prestressed spring. assembly.
The track is tensioned correctly, if the disk at
the end of the spring assembly has a tolerance of
between 1 and 5 mm.
This tolerance of the disk may be checked
by reaching with a hand, between the rollers,
down to the crawler take-up (approx. 1250 mm
from the middle of the front idler rearwards).
After tensioning of the crawler track the grease
nipple is to be removed and replaced by a screwed
sealing plug.
For the purpose of loosening the crawler track
the hexagon screw next to the non-return valve
on the cylinder is to be unscrewed, until the
relief bore will be opened. Thus the grease
may pass out of the cylinder and the tension
of the crawler track will be reduced.

5.9 Taking the Machine in Tow
Should it become necessary to take the machine in tow,
then the folling points must be observed:
The traction transmission units must be set to position
zero, which is right in the middle between the gear for
paving and the gear for transfer. Normally the shift
levers cannot be set to this position. They, therefore,
have to be locked as follows:
On both traction transmission units the two screws
M10x40 for limitation of the shifting distance are to
be removed, screwed in the other way round and locked
by means of a counternut.
The parking brakes are to be released as follows:
Remove the two screws M8x10 on each of the two brake units
and withdraw the brake pistons by means of 2 screws M6x20
on the same bore holes (by simply tightening the screws).
The brake units are now released, Towing of the paver
must only be carried out by using an appropriate tow rod.
After completion of the repair work, the proper operating
condition of both the gear shift mechanism for the traction
transmission units and of the parking brakes must be
restored.

Electrical Installation
General Remarks
The electrical installation is divided up into
two groups. One of them is provided for the engine,
the lighting equipment and the electric control
system, with the current required being supplied
from the dynamo and from the battery by way of
the control desk to the individual consumers.
The fuse box is located inside the control desk,
on the rear. Do not mend or bridge-over any
fuses (8A), but replace them.
The second group is provided for the electric
heating system of the smoothing screed, and the
current required produced by the generator in the
tractive machine. A power breaker with incorporated
fuses and a separate fuse box are located on the
rear panel of the tractive machine.
Dynamo, Starter, Battery
For the maintenance of dynamo, starter and battery
please refer to the attached Operating Manual for
the diesel engine.
Generator
When servicing the engine, the V-belts of the
generator are to be checked for proper tensioning
or for damages, too. V-belts shall be exchanged
in sets only. They are tensioned properly if they
yield by 10 - 12 mm when pressed down with a thumb.
Too tight or too loose V-belts will be subjected
to increased wear.
26-7299-9180
9OGELE|
Servicing of the generator is confined to keeping
the cooling air conduits clean and to checking
the collector and the carbon brushes.
Cooling Air Conduits:
Carbon Brushe:
Soiled protective gratings
at the air inlet and air
outlet are to be cleaned,
preferably by blowing dry
compressed air through
these conduits when the
generator is running down.
If burnt patches and flutes
appear on the collector,
then the generator is to be
overhauled.
‘The carbon brushes must be
in close contact with the
collector and should not jam
in the cages of the brush
holders. When reaching a
minimum length of 13 mm,
the carbon brushes are to
be exchanged.

Heating Rods
The flat tubular heating rods are always manu-
factured in conformity with the latest technical
development. The flat oval shape is particularly
appropriate for contact heating. At the end of
every season any rust that might have formed
under the rods must be removed. Particular
attention is to be paid to the connections
which should be absolutely tight and firm
(see Lubrication Table).
Conveyors
The two conveyors are provided with separate ~
drive units, and operated by two hydraulic
motors through the intermediary of spur gears
and driving chains.
On the spur gears, oil changes are to be carried
out as indicated in the Maintenance Chart.
The tension of the driving chains is to be
checked, and should be neither too tight nor
too loose. For adjustment of the tension,
straining screws are provided. Greasing of the
chains is to be carried out as indicated in
‘the Maintenance Chart.
26-7299-9180
1ELE
Defective or damaged chains are not to be repaired
through cranked links, but have to be replaced by new
ones. Chains and chain wheels should be exchanged
together, as the pitch of a new chain does not match.
that of a used chain wheel already marked by wear,
Premature failure of the chain would result.
A centralized grease lubrication system is provided
for supplying the bearings of the conveyors with grease.
Particular attention is to be paid to the correct
tension of the driving chains for the conveyors.
Tensioning may be carried out by means of 4 straining
screws (see figure).
Loosen the counternut and
increase the tension of the
conveyor by screwing in the
nut. The running of the
driving chain on the
polygonal wheel and on the
polygonal return pulley
inevitably leads to modifica-
tions in length, which mst
be compensated by the sag of
the driving chain. A correctly
tensioned chain must, in no
Phase of its movement, be
under tension on its loose side.
The feeder bars have to rest upon the guidance. Worn down or
deformed feeder bars are to be replaced. Worn down driving
chains shall be exchanged together with the chain wheels,
as the pitch of the new driving chain does not match that
of the used chain wheel.
26-7299-9180
125.12
Spreading Screw
For the two halves of the spreading screw separate
drive units are provided. The screw halves are
driven by hydraulic motors through the intermediary
of planetary gears and chains. 0i1 changes on the
planetary gears are to be carried out as described
in the Maintenance Chart. The bearings of the
spreading screw are greased automatically through
the Centralized Lubrication System.
The driving chains are running in
a gear casing. They are tensioned
automatically through a spring
mechanism, The initial tension,
however, must be checked and
adjusted, if necessary. For this
purpose remove the covers on the
sides of the casing. The chain is
pretensioned correctly, if there is
@ clearance of 7 mm between the
upper edge of the spring plate and
the lower edge of the guide tube.
In case of a larger clearance, the
tension is to be increased through
the nuts (first check after 100
service hours). Should after long
operation and several adjustments
the chains have elongated so far
that the chain tensioning device
becomes visible through the check
bore and the distance to the stop is approx. 10-15 mn,
then the chains are to be shortened by one link and
the initial tension is to be restored in the way
described above. Lubrication of the chains shall be
carried out as indicated in the Maintenance Chart.

135.13 Hydraulic Installation
5.13.1 General Remark:
The quality of the hydraulic oil employed as a
lubricating and operating medium primarily
determines the performance, the operational safety
and the service life of the hydraulic elements
installed in the road paver.
Oils are to be selected carefully. 0il level checks
shall be carried out at regular intervals and
the times for oil changes adhered to. The changing
of the oil is to be carried out at operating
temperature. The filter elements shall be cleaned
or replaced as prescribed.
The operating temperature has an essential influence
upon the appearance of failures or damages within
the installation. Dirt accumlation on the oil cooler
is to be avoided. The whole installation shall be
subjected to visual checks at regular intervals.
When carrying out maintenance work, repairs or
exchanges on the hydraulic aggregates, then
cleanliness is of utmost importance. Prior to any
disassembly, all the connecting elements are to
be cleaned thoroughly. Unscrewed and exposed pipe
Joints shall be protected from dirt. Only under
these conditions can the subsequent assembly work
be carried out in an impeccable way.

Qil Changes
In conformity with the Table of Lubricants
0-05-01-02,
Under special working conditions (heavy air
pollution, overheating) oil changes are recommended
to be carried out more frequently.
The degree of dirt accumulation in the oil can be
checked through a drop test. For this purpose a
sample of oil, at normal operating temperature, is
taken from the bottom of the tank and dripped onto
a filter paper (blotting paper). A light yellow
spot, uniform in colour, indicates that the oil
is still fresh. Used oil will leave a dark stain
in the middle. Oil with a milky appearance contains
too much water and is to be changed immediately.
Filters
4 Filter with mechanical dirt indicator
in the supply piping for the pumps of
conveyors and spreading screw.
2 Combined suction/pressure filters on
the two pumps for traction.
1 Filter with mechanical dirt indicator
in the oil leakage pipe.
41 Filter with electrical dirt indicator
for return oil in the hydraulic oil tank.
The first change of filter elements is to be
carried out after 500 service hours, further
changes every 1000 operating hours. On principle,
new filter elements are to be fitted with
every oil change.
26-7299-9180
155.13.6
26-7299-9180
16
For the regular checking of the filters, the
dirt indicators are to be observed. Should the
red pin appear (mechanical indicator) or the
signal lamp light up (electrical indicator),
then the filter elements are to be changed
immediately.
Visual Checks
To be carried out at least once a month.
Particular attention shall be paid to:
Leaks in the piping system;
Kinks in flexible tubings;
Proper attachment of the hydraulic element:
Dirt accumulation in the oil cooling syste!
Cleanliness of the cooling fins.
Grease Lubrication System
The grease level in the grease
pump is to be checked daily and
grease filled up, if necessary.
For this purpose open the flap
provided in the bottom plate
next to the driver's seat on
the left.
Pipes showing external damages
are to be replaced immediately.
Such damages are, e.g., signs
of corrosion, chafe marks,
crush marks etc.The tension of the driving chain
for the grease pump may,
if necessary, be adjusted in the
following way.
Loosen the fastening screws of the
5.15
pump. By displacing the pump
forwards the chain will be
tensioned.
Tighten the fastening screws again.
The tension of the chain must not
be too high, and it should yield
by approx. 5 mm when being pressed
down.
Gear Shifting Mechanism
The bearings and articulations of the gear shift linkage
are to be checked and greased as described in the
Maintenance Chart. Deformed linkages are to be exchanged.
When replacing the gear shift linkage see to it that
the mechanical locking devices are fitted in the
correct way.
The proper functioning of the limit switches is to be
checked during the general inspection of the machine.
The function is correct if, with the paver geared for
transfer, the limit switches are actuated.
These switches also fulfil the function of safety
elements. In case of defective limit switches the
paver cannot be operated to the full extent.

5.16 Mounting and Dismounting of the Smoothing Screed
For the purpose of dismounting the smoothing screed,
the paver is to be placed onto a support (see
Section 2.10). .
When carrying out the following work the diesel
engine must be stopped.
Hydraulic Section: Paver and smoothing screed are
joined through flexible tubes
provided with quick-acting
couplings. The couplings are to
be separated on the paver, the
flexible tubes remain on the
screed.
When dismounting an extending
screed, then the pressure pipe
(NW 10) is to be separated from
the screed and joined with the
corresponding pipe (plugged)
on the paver.
Electrical Section: Separate the earth cable from the
paver, and the cable for the
electrical heating system from
the load-isolating breaker on
tractive machine.
Mechanical Section: Loosen the flange connections
between the side arms and the
screed.
The mounting of the smoothing screed is to be carried
out in the reverse order.

5.18 Fitting of Roller Bearings
Attention! When exchanging roller bearings in the
area of the paving material, use
bearings with steel cages only.ELE
6. Operation of the Paver on the Building Site
6.1 General Remarks
The paver shall, on principle, drive on a pre-compacted
base. The pre-compaction must be high enough to
prevent the paver from sinking into the material.
The paving material is dumped into the material
hopper from lorries. During discharge, the lorry
may be pushed by the paver. The operating speed
of the paver is dependent upon the working width
and the surfacing thickness. This speed is chosen
correctly, if continuous paving without any stops
can be carried out.
Due to the proportional control of conveyors and
spreading screw (position "Automatic") a constant
material level is maintained automatically in the
screw tunnel. Should automatic operation be not
employed, then the speed of the conveyors as well
as the number of revolutions of the screw halves
may be adapted to the respective operating speed
in the constant stages 1 - 3.
In order to keep the road paver ready for operation
at any time, the following parts are to be cleaned
every day after termination of work:
Conveyors and bottom plates on the tractive
machine;
Tampers, screed plates and pressure bars
on the Screed.
a
26-7299-9200OGELE
When placing bituminous material. the conveyors, the
spreading screw, the tampers and the pressure bars
are to be sprayed thoroughly, with their drives
running, by means of the spray gun in order to
prevent the paving material from sticking to them.
As spraying agent a bitumen solvent should be
employed.
When placing concrete, these machine parts are to
be cleaned by means of water. Care shall be taken
that exposed bearings and greasing nipples are not
hit directly by the jet of water.
If this cleaning work is not carried out carefully,
then the moving elements might stick together and
lead to an impairment of the paver functions.
The rupture of chains and premature wear of the
driving elements might result.
6.2 Paving
General Remarks
From the continuous spreading screw individual screw
blades can be removed, in order to transform it into
an open one. This may become necessary under particular
working condition or when using special paving
materials.
The screw blades are to be arranged as follows:
In the works the screw blades were fitted in such a
way that the material will be conveyed outwards.
The conveying direction is indicated on the blade
itself through an arrow. In case of a correct
mounting of the screw blades, the arrows on the
right side as well as on the left-are pointing outwards.
SO
aesThe claw blades next to the bearing block of the
spreading screw, right in the middle, may also be
fitted such that the material will be conveyed
inwards. This is shown in the drawing below.
Material conveyed inwards
This arrangement is to be chosen if, in case of
certain paving materials, a differing surface texture
appears in the area below the bearing block.
When working at large operating widths the screw
blades of 400 mm diameter, supplied together with
the screw shaft extension of 1.5 m, are to be fitted
in front of the external bearing blocks on the
basic machine (see figure).
In case of operating widths of 2.5 m and less
it is generally appropriate to screw off the
outer screw blades. This measure will contribute
to reduce wear.

—————
26-7299-9200If the road is to have a crown, then the smoothing screed
may be set to the desired amount through the adjusting
mechanism (see figure below).
At a working width of 3 m the screed may be raised in the
middle by a maximum of 4 cm. The set amount is indicated
on the scale in millimetres - in relation to a working width
of 3 m. On the same scale the set slope of the two screed
halves is indicated in percent.
For setting up the screed-tethe-déesired surfacing thickness
it is recommended to place it onto two supports (preferably
of wood). The thickness of these supports is to be larger
by the amount of the subsequent compaction of the paving
material. Afterwards the screed may be set either in parallel
to the base, or at an angle.
The raising and lowering through the hydraulic rams
can be carried out from either side by tumbler switches
provided on the switch boxes on the left and the right
of the screed.
26-7299-9208ELE}
In case of a failure in the electrics the adjustment
of the hydraulic rams may be carried out manually
directly on the solenoid valves.
In order to obtain a uniform surface texture of bituminous
mats from the very beginning of paving, it is recommended
to proceed as follows:
1. Switching on of the heating system for the screed
and, after a period of approx. 5 minutes, conveyance
of paving material in front of the screed.
2. After another 5 minutes starting off, until the
screed rests on the hot paving material to about
3/4 of its depth.
3. Remaining in this position for approx. 5 minutes,
then start paving.
The smoothing screed floats on the paving material.
The position of the screed in relation to the subbase
is dependent upon the contact surface of the screed and the
consistency of the material to be laid. This position
may be either in parallel to the subbase or at an
angle, i.e. that the leading edge of the screed is
set higher than the trailing edge.
The following factors are decisive:
Surfacing thickness, compacting work, operating speed,
composition of the paving material and temperature of
the mix.
With regard to the surfacing thickness, the factors
above must be taken into account as well as the set
screed planing angle.
26-7299-9200ELE
In case of a deviation from the desired surfacing thickness
the tow points at the front must be modified.
By setting the tumbler switch to position "Raising",
the tow points at the front will be moved up and
the leading edge of the screed raised at the same time.
Due to the resulting angle more paving material will
get under the screed. The screed will be raised
inevitably and the planing angle gradually reduced,
until the original parallel position of the screed
is restored again. A reduction of the surfacing
thickness is brought about accordingly.

General Remarks
Performance, operational safety and service life of
the road paver largely depend upon the careful
selection of oils and greases.
A choice of lubricants is to be made according
to our valid Table ef Lubricants 0-05-01-02, in
conjunction with the Maintenance Chart.
Should oils or greases be employed that are not
indicated in the above-mentioned Table, then
their quality must be at least equal to that of
the ofls and greases recommended by us. As a
general rile: Use hydraulic oils on mineral oil
basis Type HL-P according to DIN 51519.
After the replacement or repair of hydraulic pumps
or of elements of the hydraulic motors, these are
to be filled separately with hydraulic oil prior
to putting them into operation again.7.4.2 Quantities

Transportation on Low-Bed Trailer
When driving the paver onto a low-bed trailer see to
it that the inclination of the approach ramp does not
exceed a maximum of 10° (22 %) (remove rubber guard
on the left and the right of the rear panel).
