Next Generation Networks

This document outlines a course on Next Generation Networks (NGN). It provides 3-4 hours of instruction per week over one semester. Assessment includes a midterm exam worth 20% and a final exam worth 80%. Students will learn about broadband access mechanisms, packet switching technologies, the NGN architecture, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Voice over IP (VoIP), Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), and mobile IP. The practical component involves a report and presentation on a case study application of NGN technologies. The course aims to help students understand the drivers for network convergence and key aspects of designing and implementing next generation networks.
