EXERCISE Admitance

This document contains three exercises involving power system network analysis: 1) It provides a 4-bus system diagram and asks to convert it to an admittance diagram and obtain the bus admittance matrix, then repeat adding loads to buses 3 and 4. 2) It provides a reactance diagram with generator and load specifications and asks to develop the nodal admittance matrix and write the nodal admittance equations. 3) It provides an impedance diagram and asks to develop the nodal admittance matrix, write the nodal admittance equations, and evaluate the node voltages.

EXERCISE

Q1. A power system network is shown in Figure Q1. The generators at buses 1 and 2 are
represented by their equivalent current source with their reactances in per-unit on a 100
MVA base. The line are represented by π model where series reactances and shunt
reactances are also expressed in per-unit on a 100 MVA base.

a) Convert network impedance diagram to network admittance diagram and obtain the
bus admittance matrix.
b) Repeat (a) by adding bus 3 and 4 with loads S3= 100 MW+ j25 MVar; S4=200 MW+
j50 MVar, respectively.
Q2. The corresponding reactance diagram, with reactances specified in per unit is shown in the
figure. A generator with emf equal to 1.25 ∟0◦ per unit is connected through a transformer to
high-voltage node 3, while a motor with internal voltage equal to 0.85∟45◦ is similarly
connected to node 4. Develop the nodal admittance matrix for each of the network branches and
then write the nodal admittance equation of the systems.

Q3. Consider the impedance diagram of Figure Q3 in which the system parameters are given in
per unit by

Z11 = Z22 = j0.25, Z12 = j0.2, Z13 = j0.25, Z23 = Z34 = j0.4 and Z24 = j0.5

Develop the nodal admittance matrix for each of the network branches and then write the nodal
admittance equation of the systems. Evaluate the note voltage for each of the notes.
