Transistor Characterstics - With Fig

The document describes procedures for characterizing a transistor in CE and CB configurations. In CE configuration, input characteristics are obtained by varying base-emitter voltage at constant collector-emitter voltages and output characteristics by varying collector-emitter voltage at constant base currents. In CB configuration, input characteristics are measured by varying base-emitter voltage at constant collector-base voltages and output characteristics by varying collector-base voltage at constant emitter currents. Key parameters like current gain β, input resistance ri, output resistance ro, and α are calculated from the experimental data.

(A) TRANSISTOR CHARACTERSTICS: CE CONFIGURATION

Aim:
1. To study the output characteristics of a transistor under CE and CB
configuration and to determine  and 
2. Create Table in Excel and Plot characteristics curves given by using chart
wizard and calculate transistor parameters when data is provided.
Components: - Transistor (PNP), milli ammeter (0-10mA), micro ammeter,
Voltmeters, rheostat, power supply, dry cell etc.

Circuit Diagram:

Procedure:-
A. Input Characteristics
1. Connect the circuit as shown in the figure.
2. Keep the collector emitter voltage constant, change VBE in steps of 0.05V and
record the base current.
3. Repeat step (2) for two more values of VCE
4. Plot a graph between VBE and IB for different values of VCE
B. Output Characteristics
1. Keep the base current IB constant by adjusting the position of rheostat bin the
base circuit.
2. Change VCE with the help of rheostat in collector circuit, initially in steps of
0.2V up to 1 V and later on in steps of 1 V, and note down the corresponding
collector current IC in milliammeter.
3. Repeat the same procedure for different values of IB.
4. Plot a graph between VCE and IC and calculate  from it.
