    To register a pharmaceutical premise in Nigeria, one must first register the pharmacy as a company with the Corporate Affairs Commission. The company must be owned and directed by a registered pharmacist. Next, the pharmacist director applies to the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria for inspection and approval of the premises location. The premises must be a certain size, distance from other pharmacies or hospitals, and not located in busy commercial areas. Once location is approved, the applicant sets up the store meeting requirements before final registration and licensing of the pharmaceutical premises is granted.

    PROCEDURE FOR THE REGISTRATION OF PHARMACEUTICAL PREMISES

    1. Registration with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)

     Involves incorporating the pharmacy as a company.

     A non-pharmacist is not allowed to own and run a pharmaceutical premise. If he

    must run the premise must be fronted by a trained registered pharmacist who

    registers the company as the pharmacist director.

     The company must have board of directors which must include a registered

    pharmacist and any other individual with the pharmacist director having the

    highest number of shares in the company to enable the request for establishment

    pass through and be accepted by the council.

    2. Registration with Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN)

     After obtaining the CAC company certificate

     The pharmacist director writes to the PCN for inspection of the premises for the

    approval of the location

     Good premises with 30sq to 40sq (bigger depending on what you want)

     200m far away from any other nearby registered pharmacy or hospital

     Not to be located close to a market, motor parks or where higher commercial

    activities is taking place.

     Must be neat

     Once your location is approved, a list will be given by the council to start setting up

    the store by putting up necessary things in place such as furniture’s, electronics,

    pharmacist office, fire extinguisher, poison books and box but e.t.c., with the

    exception of drug stocking.

     Apply for an official registration of the pharmacy premise. The premise or store will

    be visited or inspected to see if you meet the requirements and you will be asked to

    pay for the licence or registration.
