Lab Test 1 Introduction Radar Rev 1 - Question

The document provides an introduction to radar systems used on ships and vessels. It outlines the objectives and learning outcomes of the lab, which are to understand radar system operations and components. It then describes the basic functions of radar such as transmitting radio waves to detect objects and return signals. The document lists the necessary equipment, materials and procedures for the lab, including identifying components of the radar system like the antenna, transmitter and display. It provides details on taking observations and measurements to document the specifications of key components.

LAB 1: INTRODUCTION TO RADAR SYSTEM

Title : Introduction to the Radar System

Objectives:
The objective of this experiment is to expose student on the operation of the RADAR
system and related equipment on board-ship /vessel.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this experiment, the student should be able to:
1. Understand on RADAR system operations
2. Understand the components within the RADAR system

Introduction:

Radar is an object-detection system that uses radio waves to determine the range,
altitude, direction, or speed of objects. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft,
guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. The radar dish (or antenna)
transmits pulses of radio waves or microwaves that bounce off any object in their path. The
object returns a tiny part of the wave's energy to a dish or antenna that is usually located at
the same site as the transmitter.

Preparation:

1. Radar Trainer mod. M702/EV

2. Safety precaution
3. Standard operating procedure
4. Tools / Test Equipment
5. Necessary item needed

List of equipment and materials:

1. Radar Trainer mod. M702/EV External and Internal Unit

2. Radar Trainer mod. M702/EV Technical Manual
3. Training Aids

Procedures:
1. By using Technical Manual identify function of each equipment as shown in
Figure 1 below:

a. Internal Unit.
b. External Unit.
2. Observe closely at the RADAR System
3. Identify each component
4. Switch ‘ON’ the RADAR System
5. Find information for each equipment from the given book of references.
