This reflection discusses a math lesson taught by the author to a KG2B class on the number name "Fifty". The goals of the lesson were for students to recognize, identify, and count numbers 1 to 50, and write numbers in tens up to 50. Most students were able to count to 100. The lesson went well, with students engaged in counting and ordering numbers. The author suggests enhancing future lessons by taking math activities outside for a more active, sensory-based learning experience.

SWC Lesson Reflection

For my Math lesson, I planned to teach students the number name Fifty. Since Ms. Roopas

students are mostly average to high level standard, they are able to count number forward from 1

to 100. The lesson took place in SIPS in Ms. Roopa’s KG2B classroom that consisted of 27

students. Unfortunately, Ms. Roopa was still on a leave of absence, so every period Ms. Shame

would send a different substitute teacher. My Learning outcomes were for the students to be

able to recognize, identify, and count numbers 1 to 50. Students will be able to spell out and

write the numbers in tens up to 50. The students are pretty smart, before beginning the lesson I

decided to ask them to help me count up to 50 and then 100 as a whole class. After the Number

song, the students behaved well while waiting for me to call out their name to come up. Each

student will be holding a number in tens, and the 5 students teamed up together to order them

from least to greatest and then each student would count up to the number she or he is holding.

For the independent activity, each student received a worksheet where they had to match and
order numbers. At the end of the lesson, I handed out their Math copy book and asked them read

and write.

Students responded the way they did because the enjoyed taking the lead when counting, it gave

them some motivation and confidence that they can do it alone just like they did together. Every

week or two, students will learn a new number, for this week students learned numbers 41 to 50.

I suppose I engaged them well, some students got ahead of themselves and instead of just writing

the numerals in order they actuals write the number names. My lesson did meet my teaching

goals, as I mentioned above how the students learn new numbers every week and still go over the

numbers they’ve learnt so far.

I could enhance this lesson by taking it outdoor instead of always working inside the classroom,

e.g. we could play “buzz” each student will count forward from 1 to 50 and instead of saying 10,

20, 30, 40, and 50 students will say BUZZ! Students tend to be more attentive when

experiencing outdoor learning, it also helps with their emotion, inspires them to be more

physically active. Students rarely get a chance to go outside and play due to them practicing

their graduation performance, but the times that we have gone out, I’ve noticed how students get

motivated to learn, socialize with one another, and students learn better when they get a chance

to use their senses.
