LITERACY STRATEGIES

Observe your MST’s classroom and general practices you see around the school. Discuss
the areas below in context of what you observe in school and support with a photo and a
reference to reading when possible.

Describe the classroom environment.

The students sets us groups each group have 6 students, The classroom have a lot of posters, pictures,
words, and some students works stick on the wall. There is have a small corner for reading stories and a
shelfs for students work books.

Consider how the class is a print rich environment. What print can you see around the
room? (labels, captions, flashcards, headings, rules, instructions, timetable, flash cards,
etc) For each one you mention insert pictures and state the purpose of each one.

-There is have a lot of flash cards and some student works.

-Rules of the classroom.

-Name of students who go with Bus and Cars.
Is there a variety of books and genres in the class? Mention some. How are they
displayed?

In reading corner there is a several books. For example, there is have a science stories or natural stories
with some picture. That display with some note have a real information from live. For example, information
about water cycle.

Describe the reading area in your classroom.

Does the teacher read to the children? How often? How does she motivate them to read?

Yes she read to the children, in there curriculum they have every Thursday a reading period also they have a
book ‘moral education book’ the children understand that it is time to read. The teacher before start read
aloud for whole class she ask some question about a new words and ask question related to the story. After

In read aloud she ask the students “ what you can see in cover page?”, “where is author name and what it

How does the teacher teach phonics and word attack skills to children? Describe a phonics
lesson you observed and mention how the children are scaffolded to recognise the word
and get the meaning.

I observe the phonics lesson (ch, sh, th). That was a creative lesson because the teacher ask the student to
make a small booklet written the word have (ch, sh, th). So that the students will understand the phonics
and grown step by step after that.

What comprehension strategies are the children learning/using?

The teacher make some strategies for the children comprehension that by assess them after each lesson by
use ‘ small teacher for the day, worksheet, ask questions and do activity’ that how she rate the students
knowledge.
Ask your teacher about special reading events carried out in the school - e.g ‘Book
Character Day’, DEAR Time, Book Fairs, ‘Extreme Reading’ competitions etc.

They took the children to the Book Fair. Also, some times in the assembly morning they have some festival
for reading month.

Describe some types of writing activities or the method the teacher uses for writing – e.g
emergent writing, copy writing, dictations, etc

- Weekly dictations.
- Copy from the board.
- Write what you fell. (in the Art lesson they draw after that the teacher ask to write what they want
according to the picture drawing).
