Class Exercise: Blending of Curves, Tangents & Ellipse

The document provides instructions for constructing geometric figures like blending curves and tangents, drawing ellipses using different methods, and drawing pulleys connected by a belt. It includes questions about determining centers of arcs, obtaining points of contact for pulleys and a belt, and constructing an ellipse given its major axis and locating foci.

Class Exercise
Question 1
Construct the figure shown, showing clearly the various constructions used to determine the centers
for the arcs.

Question 2
Figure 6 shows the outlines of three semi pulley wheels connected by a taut belt. Draw the figure, full
size, showing clearly the constructions for obtaining the points of contact of the belt and pulleys.

Question 2
The major axis of an ellipse is 108 mm and the foci of an ellipse are 20 mm away from the end
points of the major axis. Determine the length of the minor axes and draw half the ellipse by
concentric circle method and the other half by rectangular method. Draw a tangent and normal to the
curve at a point on it 20 mm below the major axis.
