My name is Zachary Samuels and I am currently a graduate student at Ithaca College studying to be
Social Studies teacher. I will be working with Mr. Porter and teaching your children for the next couple
of months; until the beginning of March to be more precise.
I wanted to introduce myself and give you some background information about me, as I will be working
with your kids for the next several weeks. I am originally from Southern New Jersey where I was born
and raised until setting off for college after graduating high school. My family was (and still is) heavily
involved in scouting, as I was brought up through BSA program, attaining the rank of Eagle during my
senior year of high school. I also worked as a lifeguard and counselor at a BSA summer camp for three
summers, where I gained most of my teaching experience. The guiding tenets of the organization
shape much of my core values to this day.
As for my interest in education, I come from a family of teachers. My grandparents taught at the
elementary and collegiate level and now I am following in their footsteps. I have been studying history
and education for several years now, having graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelor’s degree in
History in 2016, as well as having taken several education courses over the course of my undergrad
career.
Most recently, I have enrolled in the Ithaca College Social Studies Education program, which has
provided expert instruction on educational theory, in addition to a plethora of hands-on experiences
observing and participating in different types of classrooms and schools around the area. Though I am
still learning the ins and outs of teaching, I will be working with Mr. Porter and several Ithaca College
faculty to refine my teaching practice over the course of the semester.
I look forward to working with the students, as well as becoming a part of the school community. If you
have any questions for me or simply want to contact me, feel free to contact me via e-mail at
[email protected] or phone at 607-378-3368. I would love to talk and get to know you and the
community during my time at Horseheads Middle School.
Sincerely,
Zachary Samuels
