What is Web 2.0? What are some examples?
● Web 2.0 is introduced by O’Reilly Media in 2004.

● It is a website that contains dynamic content and allows people

collaborate and share information online.

● Examples of Web 2.0 features include social networking sites and social

media sites (e.g., Facebook), blogs, wikis, folksonomies, video sharing sites

(e.g., YouTube), hosted services, Web applications (“apps”) etc.

2
What is Kahoot?
● Kahoot is a free game-based learning for teachers, students and all learners.
● Teachers can create a fun learning game in munitue which is called
‘kahoots’.
● Teachers can design their ‘kahoots’ by adding videos, images or diagrams.
● The number of the questions or format of the ‘kahoots’ is up to teachers.
● Students can play, learn and have fun and celebrate together with Kahoot.
● After a game students can create and share their own kahoots to deepen
understanding, mastery purpose, as well as engage in peer-led discussions.
● Students play kahoots on their phones for revision and reinforcement,
training their classroom superpowers anytime.

5
Creating an account to use the Kahoot:
● If creating an account, this screen will come up. First enter your role. Then
create a username, provide your email, and create a password. If signing in,
enter your email and password. Click “lost your password” for help.

6
Creating an account to use the Kahoot:
● When you log in, your screen will look somewhat like this. You can look at
your quizzes if you have already created some, or you can create new
quizzes.

7
How to play with Kahoot?
● Kahoots are best played in a group setting, like a classroom or a conference
room – or even with family in the living room.
● Games are displayed on a shared screen – for example a smart TV, a laptop
or an interactive whiteboard. You can also use screen sharing tools like
Appear. In, Skype or Google Hangouts to include players from other classes
or other parts of the world.
● Players join in using their own device – whether that is a smartphone, iPad,
Kano, laptop, or desktop doesn’t matter, as long as they have a browser and
good internet connection.
8
Features and capabilities of Kahoot:
● Kahoot is very easy to use to create quizzes and surveys.
● The website takes you step by step through the creation process. Both
quizzes and surveys are created in the same way.
● You first start by creating a title for your quiz or survey. Then, you are
brought to a new screen where you start creating your quiz/survey by typing
your first question.
● Next, you type in at least two answers (no more than four answers) to your
question and mark which answers are incorrect or correct by a click of a
button.
● You also have the ability to add images to your question by either dragging
the file into the workspace or chose the file from your device.
● If you do not add an image, Kahoot will add one for you to make the Kahoot
more engaging for the students.
9
Features and capabilities of Kahoot:

● Kahoot has recently added a video feature to its website, meaning that you
can add a YouTube video to the question.
● Kahoot also gives you the choice to duplicate questions if the teacher wants
to create a similar question. From experimenting with the website, you can
add many questions to your quiz/survey.

Educational uses of the Kahoot:
Put this tool into practice:

● Warm up the class with a game: I would use as a starter to the unit by
creating less than 5 questions on topics that we have covered or material
learned from a previous class.
● Assess students knowledge before the start a unit: I would use Kahoot to
assess their knowledge before the start to a unit.
● Conclude a class with a game: Concluding a class with a game provides
teachers a formative assessment.
12
Examples of possible practices:
This tool can be used for:

1. Review for assessment: Rather than giving out a packet of information,

playing Kahoot would be more fun and engaging.
2. Check for understanding: It is easy to check students understanding of the
concept that have covered at the class with Kahoot. It is simple a fun
formative assessment.
3. Have students create their own Kahoot: Students could take the material
from a particular unit and create their own Kahoots.
13
Advantages of using Kahoot:
● Student engagement with this game is high.
● The students enjoy playing this game because it is fast paced, visual, and
energetic.
● It is a way to see student understanding of material.
● Kahoot gives teachers the ability to track student performance of the game
to make adjustment in teaching or reteaching in some instances.
● Using Kahoot is that teachers can easily use either Kahoots that have been
made by others for public use or create their own Kahoots.

14
Disadvantages of Kahoot:
● It cannot put the questions in order.
● Students have to have an internet connection and a smartphone/tablet.
● The picture comes a bit after the question
