MANILA, Philippines - Nanguna na si Liberal Party (LP) vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo sa bagong survey ng
Social Weather Stations.

Sa SWS survey na ginawa mula April 18 - 20 at may 1,800 respondents, nakakuha si Robredo ng 26 percent habang si
Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ay may 25 percent.

Nakakuha si Robredo ng dagdag na pitong puntos mula sa huling survey na ginawa noong March 30 hanggang April 2.

“Kailangan nating i-maintain iyong lead kaya ipinagdadasal natin na iyong 14 days enough para ma-maintain natin iyon,”
wika ni Robredo sa isang panayam sa radyo.

Ikatlo si Sen. Chiz Escudero na may 18 percent habang sina Sens. Alan Peter Cayetano, Antonio Trillanes at Gregorio
Honasan ay may 18, 5 at 2 percent.

Ayon sa political science professor na si Edmund Tayao, ang pagtaas ni Robredo ay dahil sa maganda niyang
performance sa mga nakaraang debate at sa epektibong strategy ng kanyang kampanya.

Sa Bilang Pilipino-SWS mobile survey na ginawa pagkatapos ng ikalawang debate noong April 17, 33 porsiyento ng
tinanong ay nagsabing si Robredo ang nagwagi.

Kilalang abogado ng mahihirap, nagbigay si Robredo ng libreng serbisyong legal sa mahihirap na sector ng lipunan,
kabilang ang magsasaka, mangingisda at inaabusong kababaihan sa mahabang panahon bago naging mambabatas.

Samantala, napanatili ni Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ang pangunguna.

Lumayo na ang agwat ni Duterte kay Sen. Grace Poe. Nakakuha si Duterte ng 33 percent habang 26 percent si Poe.

MANILA, Philippines - Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will order the killing of his own children if they get involved in
illegal drug activities.

The presidential aspirant, who maintains a strong stance against illegal drugs, said he would not spare even his own
family members if he discovers that they are using illegal drugs.

“None (of my children are into illegal drugs). But my order is, even if it is a member of my family, ‘kill him’,” the tough-
talking mayor said.

Duterte was asked about his stand on several issues during the “fast talk” segment of the third presidential debate hosted
by ABS-CBN and Manila Bulletin at the University of Pangasinan in Dagupan City last Sunday.

Asked if he is a good example to the youth, he answered “yes” because he restored public safety and order in Davao
City.

He also said he would not declare martial law, except when there is rebellion and lawless violence, and is willing to give
the late president Ferdinand Marcos a hero’s burial.

“It’s time to heal,” Duterte said.

If elected on May 9, he would give the top tourism and finance department posts to deserving women.

He refused to accept the challenge of Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Mar Roxas though to give up his presidential bid
if the latter could prove that Davao City benefitted from the government’s PhilHealth program.

Roxas made the dare after Duterte insinuated that the government is all promises but runs short on implementation,
claiming that PhilHealth has not reached Davao City until now.

“I do not believe you. You have made so many promises in your term in the government… it’s all talk, announcement
(and) no implementation. And, if there is one, it’s all corruption,” Duterte said.

He mocked Roxas, saying that if Filipinos believed in him and in what he says, “then why are you behind in the ratings?”

Roxas’ retort was that Filipinos have already seen Duterte’s attitude in public, which made him unfit to lead the country. –

MANILA, Philippines - Despite reaping widespread condemnation for his comment about the rape and killing of an
Australian missionary, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte remained the leading presidential candidate for the May 9
elections, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) pre-election survey.

Support for Duterte rose to 33 percent in the SWS April 18-20 poll from 27 percent in the March 30-April 2 survey.

The poll was taken in the days after Duterte’s comment at a campaign rally on April 12 had gone viral online.

It showed administration candidate Leni Robredo leaping past Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in the race for vice
president. But with just two points between them, they remain in a statistical tie for the top spot.

In the presidential race, former frontrunner Sen. Grace Poe remained in second place with 24 percent voter preference –
a slight increase from 23 percent.

Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas overtook Vice President Jejomar Binay in third spot with 19 percent from 18
percent in the previous survey.

Binay, standard bearer of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), ranked fourth with 14 percent, down six points
from 20 percent.

Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago remained last with only two percent voter preference, slightly lower than the three percent
she previously posted.

The SWS survey had a total 1,800 respondents, who are validated voters. It has sampling error margins of plus or minus
two percentage points.

MANILA, Philippines — Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that the decapitated head of a Caucasian
male recovered Monday night in the southern Philippines belongs to one of two Canadians taken hostage by Abu Sayyaf
militants in September.

Trudeau identified the victim as John Ridsdel of Calgary, Alberta and said his government will work with the government
of the Philippines and international partners to pursue those responsible for this "heinous act."

Two men on a motorcycle left Ridsdel's head, placed inside a plastic bag, along a street in Jolo town in Sulu province and
then fled, Jolo police chief Superintendent Junpikar Sitin said.

Abu Sayyaf militants had threatened to behead one of three men — two Canadians and a Norwegian — they kidnapped
last September from a marina on southern Samal Island if a large ransom was not paid by 3 p.m. on Monday.

Jolo Mayor Hussin Amin condemned the beheading, blaming Abu Sayyaf militants, who have been implicated in past
kidnappings, beheadings and bombings.

"This is such a barbaric act by these people and one would be tempted to think that they should also meet the same fate,"
Amin said by telephone.

Security forces were moving to rescue the abductees, also including a Filipino woman who was kidnapped with them, as
the Abu Sayyaf's deadline for the ransom payment lapsed, the military said.

The militants reportedly demanded P300 million pesos for each of the foreigners, a reduction from their earlier demands.

The hostages were believed to have been taken to Jolo Island in Sulu, a jungled province where the militants are thought
to be holding a number of captives, including 14 Indonesian and four Malaysian crewmen who were abducted at gunpoint
from three tugboats starting last month.

"Maximum efforts are being exerted ... to effect the rescue," the military and police said in a joint statement, without
divulging details of the rescue operation, which was ordered by President Benigno Aquino III.

About 400 Abu Sayyaf militants were involved in the kidnappings, it said.

In militant videos posted online, Ridsdel and fellow Canadian Robert Hall, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad and Filipino
Marites Flor were shown sitting in a clearing with heavily armed militants standing behind them. In some of the videos, a
militant positioned a long knife on Ridsdel's neck. Two black flags hung in the backdrop of lush foliage.

In Canada, Ridsdel was remembered as a brilliant, compassionate man with a talent for friendship.

MANILA, Philippines - Hindi matitigil ang mga insidente ng tanim-bala sa NAIA hangga’t walang naipapakulong sa mga
taong responsable sa pambibiktima ng mga biyahero.

Reaksiyon ito ni Sen. Ralph Recto matapos makatanggap ng ulat na wala pang kawani ng NAIA ang naipapakulong
hanggang ngayon dahil sa pagtatanim ng bala sa mga umaalis na pasahero.

“Kung walang masasampolan ang gobyerno, pabalik-balik lamang ang problemang ito ng tanim-bala. Kung gusto nating
matigil ito, kailangang maipakulong ang mga taong nambibiktima sa ating mga biyahero,” ani Recto.

Makakatulong aniya, kung makapagtayo pa ang Malakanyang ng detachment ng Presidential Action Center (PACE) sa
NAIA para may malapitan ang mga overseas workers at biyahero na nagiging biktima ng tanim-bala.

Ayon pa kay Recto, may sapat nang mga batas para maipakulong ang mga empleyado ng pamahalaan na
mapapatunayang nagtatanim ng ebidensya sa mga taong nahuhuli ng mga awtoridad.

Partikular dito aniya, ang Republic Act 9516 na nagpapataw ng parusang habambuhay na pagka-bilanggo sa sinumang
mapapatunayan na responsable sa pagtatanim ng bala bilang ebidensya.

Isinulong ni Recto ang pag-iimbestiga sa Senado ng mga kaso ng tanim-bala noong huling bahagi ng 2015 matapos
maalarma ang mga biyahero sa dumaraming kaso ng pagtatanim ng ebidensya sa NAIA.

Pansamantalang natigil ang mga insidente ng tanim-bala pero nagbalik ito noong Martes nang mahulihan umano ng bala
sa NAIA ang isang 75 anyos na babaeng pupunta sana sa US.
