ADDITION: The sum of two or more expressions is obtained by combining similar terms using

distributive axiom or its extension.

Example 1:

2𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 − 2 − 24 + 4𝑥 + 8𝑥 2 = (2 + 8)𝑥 2 + (2 + 4)𝑥 + (−2 − 24)

= 10𝑥 2 + 6𝑥 − 26

Example 2:

15𝑥 2 𝑦 − 24𝑥𝑦 2 + 9𝑥 2 𝑦 + 𝑥𝑦 2 = (15 + 9)𝑥 2 𝑦 + (−24 − 1)𝑥𝑦 2

= 24𝑥 2 𝑦 − 23𝑥𝑦 2
