    Entering the Field:

    Students who are aspiring to pursue a career in law can enter the field in two ways. They can either take a
    3-year course after their graduation (any discipline) or a 5-year course after their higher secondary. After
    successfully completing your 3-year course, you will be designated with a Bachelor of Law (LLB) title.
    The five-year course will be an integrated course, which gives you expertise in two different streams. It
    could be BA LLB (Arts), BBA LLB (Business), B.Com LLB (Commerce), and B.Sc LLB (Hons.).
    Further to this, the law graduates can opt for specializing in any particular field of law. Specializations
    can be done during your Masters, M.Phil, or Ph.D degrees. Examples of specializations include:

     Criminal
     Civil Litigation
     Legal Analyst
     Document Drafting
     Legal Journalist
     Legal Advisor
     Government Lawyer
     Judge

    Future Job Prospects of Lawyers:

    Law is a rapidly growing profession. With the events of globalization and liberalization, the field is
    expected to get further momentum as more and more law professionals will be needed to deal with the
    cases arising due to international trade and WTO. Currently, there are 10,00,000+ lawyers in the country
    and this number is growing with lakhs of new additions annually. The law professionals are enjoying a
    high esteem in a civil society for their valuable services, at all judiciary levels, namely,

    Career Options after a Law Degree:

    1. Legal Practitioner/Advisor/Advocate

    Lawyers can take up roles as legal counselors or advisors for companies, individuals, and families. They
    can also take up roles as trustees in various organizations. With some additional qualification, they can
    also work as:

     Teachers
     Law Reporters
     Company Secretaries

    2. Government Service

    People with required education are employed for Government legal service in various posts. These
    officers can go up to the level of Secretary to the Indian Government in the due course of time, depending
    upon their eligibility. Legislative Counsels will also be recruited in official languages Wing for Hindi and
    other regional languages. While this is being done in the Legislative Department, similar posts are also
    available at the state governments’ end. All such posts are generally filled by recruitment through Public
    Service Commission Examinations and UPSC examinations that are conducted from time to time.

    3. Judiciary

    When it comes to Judiciary, the lowest cadre posts will be filled by recruitment through State’s Public
    Service Commission exams. Alternately, the recruitment process will be undertaken under the guidance
    of the High Court.

    4. Teaching

    The graduates with excellent academic records and higher degrees can take up teaching roles in
    universities and institutes offering courses related to law. There is a growing scope for visiting professors
    too!

    5. Writing and Journalism

    If an individual is quite familiar with the law and its procedures and has a flair for penning it down, then
    the person can take up writing roles. The writing may range from law books, commentaries, reports,
    journals, lexicons, and so on.

    6. Outsourcing

    This practice refers to the services that are obtained from an outside firm. This can be also called as off-
    shoring if the outsourced firm is based outside India. This particular field is becoming more popular
    today, with the increasing popularity of outsourcing.
