 Remedial Classes / Net Coaching conducted

- Peer Learning has been arranged by the Department of Zoology, for selected
students in UG & PG. Tutoring is being done 2 days per week after regular classes.
- Coaching for CSIR Exam was given by Department of Mathematics on 15th March
2014 and 2nd April 2014. Mr. R. Gnanaprakasam, Assistant Professor, Government
Polytechnic College, Aundipatti was the resource person. I & II PG students
benefitted and they appeared for the exam in June
- The Department of Chemistry launched a Cluster Programme with ANJAC –for
Proficiency in CSIR-NET/JRF Examination. The Chemistry Departments of Ayya Nadar
Janaki Ammal College (ANJAC), Sivakasi and Lady Doak College (LDC), Madurai have
evolved under joint venture an exclusive CSIR-JRF/NET coaching program for the
M.Sc. Chemistry students in colleges situated in and around Madurai and Sivakasi.
The expertise and infrastructure of different colleges can be effectively utilised
through a cluster college concept for this venture. Nearly seventy five students from
ten colleges of Madurai and Virudhunagar districts have registered under this
program and are undergoing the training program from November 2014 – March
2015.

 Sustenance of the quality research through doctoral committee review process by

Department of Chemistry
A doctoral committee was formulated to review and monitor the progress of research
work of the part-time and full-time research scholars of the department. The committee
comprises of all the research supervisors of the department with two internal experts
from biological and physical sciences departments and two external experts from other
premier research institutions. The prime objective of this review process is to have a
quality research output from the department. The committee will review the research
progress of the research scholars twice a year.

 Special Programmes for students through Students Services Office

 The Inter-Collegiate Meet, EERAM ’14 was organized on 6th September, 2014 from 9
am to 5 pm. 26 different competitions were conducted in 15 different venues and 321
participants from 14 colleges participated in the Meet.
 Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) in collaboration with United Nations Information
Centre for India and Bhutan organized ALL- INDIA ESSAY WRITING EVENT – 2014 on
the topic “To be truthful is to be human”. Ten Students participated in the
competition and one of them (P. Shandini of II M.Com.) won II prize at the Zonal
level.
 A Cybercrime awareness programme was conducted for II UG Students on 16th
October, 2014
 The Open Forum Secretaries of the Student Cabinet J. Esther Rani and J. Jabeera
Saleema conducted a debate in Open Forum on the topic ‘DRUG ADDICTION CAN BE
CONTROLLED BY GOVERNMENT (or) AN INDIVIDUAL’.
 Candle light vigil was organized by People’s Watch on 19/12/2014 at Gandhi Museum,
Madurai to express solidarity with the families of the victims of the terrorist attack on
a school in Peshawar, Pakistan in which the resident students heartily participated.
 A workshop was organized for all the resident staff members on 24th and 25th
January, 2015. Ms. Reupah Philips from Bangalore had been invited as the resource
person.

benefitted. The awareness programme was given by 40 students of Commerce

4th July 2014 in which Rural Consumer Association Member & CCC Students
participated. The President of the National Consumer Redressal Commission and the

o Department of Physics conducted Rajiv Gandhi Energy Day on the theme “Evolving a
World of Sustainable Energy” on 20th Aug. 2014. Dr. Jeba Rajasekar from Government
College, Mellur was the resource person.
o Department of Chemistry organized a programme for school children on “Experience
Chemistry Learning at Lady Doak College” on 11th October 2014 in which 60 school
students nearer to the college participated.

 Achievements in Sports and Games 2014-2015

 The college retains University Blues Champion Trophy for contributing maximum
number of university players (58) to represent Madurai Kamaraj University from the
year of its inception (except 2003-04) and it also retains Madurai Kamaraj University
Inter Collegiate Aggregate Team Championship Trophy for the last 22 years except
2003 –04.
 The college retains Mother Annociate Athletic Championship Trophy for the ninth
consecutive year in the 49th Madurai Kamaraj University Inter - Collegiate Athletic
Meet with 98 points.
 9 football players participated in South Zone Inter University Football Tournament
and won bronze Medal.
 MKU Athletic Individual Championship won by Miss S.Suganya of I M.A Tamil with 20

 UGC has approved the Status, “College with Potential for Excellence” (CPE) for the
next phase of five years and sanctioned Rs. 1.5 crore (Rs.90 lakhs under Non-
Recurring & Rs.60 lakhs for Recurring grant).

  A grant of Rs. 80 lakhs has been sanctioned by UGC for the scheme “Construction of
Women’s Hostel” during XII Plan.
 UGC has merged the Development Assistance and Merged Schemes and renamed as
“Plan Block Grant” during the XII Plan period. Grant released under Capital Assets is
Rs.3,96,109 and Grant in Aid Rs. 2,89,027/-
 A grant of Rs. 3 lakhs sanctioned under the Scheme of Establishment and Monitoring
of the Internal Quality Assurance Cells (IQACs) in College during XII plan period
 UGC, Ministry of Human Resource Development, has sanctioned a grant of Rs. 96.2
lakhs for the introduction of Lady Doak Community College Scheme from the
academic year 2014-15 to offer the following courses
o Diploma in Health Care (intake 50 students)
o Diploma in Medical Lab Technology (intake 50 students)
This grant is awarded for a period of two years for running the Community College.
 United Board has approved a total grant of Rs. 5.17 lakhs (US $ 8500) for two of our
proposals : Training workshop on Environmental Impact Assessment and Global
Reporting Initiative (GRI) for Sustainable Development (US $ 4500) and Initiation &
Implementation of Life Frontier Engagement for Whole Person Development (US $
4000) for the academic year 2014- 15

- Prof. Steven Ngai from the Department of Social Work, Chinese University of Hong
Kong visited the Department of Social Sciences on 30th and 31st January 2015 to
discuss the possibility of further collaboration between both institutions.

Department of Zoology with Dr.A.S.Priscilla as one of the co-investigators

 Centre for Environmental Studies

 - The Centre for Environmental Studies organized a training programme for faculty
drawn from Lady Doak College (11) and other colleges (19) on “Environmental Impact
Assessment” sponsored by United Board from 9th to 12th July 2014. Dr. Reginald
Victor, Professor of Biology from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, and the internal
members Dr. Christianna Singh from Economics and Dr. Vasanthi from Physics were
the resource persons
- In commemoration of Ozone Day a rally was conducted to create awareness on the
impact of ozone on the Environment on 16th Oct. 2014
- A film by Yadartha – ‘The Origin of Earth’ was screened on 29th Nov. 2014
- Energy Conservation Day was organized on 6th Dec. 2014 in which chart competition
on Conservation of Electricity was conducted
- Eco Awareness Week was observed from 15th to 19th Dec. 2014.
o An awareness CD on Dengue was released by Madurai City Corporation
Commissioner, Mr. Kathiravan IAS on 15th Dec. 2014
o Conservation Day on 15th Dec.
o Reduce Emission Day on 16th Dec.
o Traditional Food Carnival on 17th Dec.
o Waste Minimization Day on 18th Dec.
o Competitions were conducted on 19th Dec.

 Counseling Programme and Retreats conducted through Christian Activity Centre

- Faculty retreat was conducted on 27th June 2014 for all Christian faculty members.
Mrs. Safia Mirza, Faculty International from Haggai Institute, Hyderabad, was the
resource person.

- Students Retreat was held on 19th July 2014. 250 resident students and 250 non-
resident Christian students participated. Dr. Duke Jeyaraj from G4 Mission,
Hyderabad was the resource person

- Leadership Camp for students was conducted on 27th July 2014 in which 80 student
leaders participated. Dr. Duke Jeyaraj from G4 Mission, Hyderabad was the resource
person

- Faculty Family Enrichment Programme was held on 29th Nov. 2014 in which all
Christian teaching and non-teaching staff participated. Rev. Sam Kamelason from
Chennai was the resource person. He also preached to the hostel students on the
evening of 28th Nov. 2014.

o Two day workshop on “Communication Skills” was conducted on 17th & 18th Oct. 2014
in which 35 faculty members participated. Prof. Raja Govindasamy, Former Principal
of Thiagaraja College was the resource person
o One day workshop on ‘Life Frontier Engagement – Integrating Academic Learning
with Community Research’ was conducted on 3rd December 2014. Dr. Albert
Selvanayagam, Trainer in Teaching Methods, ICRDCE, Bangalore, was the resource
person. 48 faculty members participated
o One day workshop on “Interpersonal Skills” was conducted on 6th Dec. 2014. Dr.
Synthia Mary Mathew of Social Sciences Department was the resource person. 29
faculty members participated.
o One-day workshop on ‘Leadership and Team Building Skills’ was conducted on 24th
January 2015. Mr. Philips Dayanidhi, Head-Manufacturing & Business, Robert Bosch,
Bangalore was the resource person. 45 faculty members participated
o One day workshop on ‘The Life Frontier Engagement Program Charting its
Implementation’ was held on 27th January 2015. Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, the
Executive Director at Civic Engagement, Research and Training Services (CERTS),

o Programmes conducted through CGPC

- Under National Skill Development Corporation’s “Star Scheme” 4 courses were
offered – Smart Phone Servicing Course, Retail Management Course, ITES course
and course on Banking and Insurance under BFSI sector.
- 116 students got enrolled in Mobile Servicing and Retail Skills Management and
cleared the exam; certificate pending. College gets Rs.1,16,000/- towards
infrastructure fee from the training company at the rate of Rs.1000/- per student.
- Two courses – ITES and BFSI sector skill training has been provided and 154 (81 for
ITES and 73 for BFSI) students were enrolled in the two courses. Exams are
scheduled for Feb., 2015.

 Centre for Women’s Studies (UGC Funded Centre – Phase II)

o Inauguration of Silver Jubilee celebrations of Centre for Women’s Studies held on
31st July 2014. Dr. R. Mathivanan, IWID Chennai and Advocate Samidurai were the
resource persons.
o Inauguration of Students’ Club “Uliyin Oli” was held on 15th August 2014
o Two Inter Collegiate one-day workshop was conducted on the following topics to
build partnerships between men and women for gender equality
 Towards an Equitable Society on 22nd August 2014
 Gender Equity on 30th Sept 2014
o Candle light Vigil was organized on 8th Sep. 2014 in collaboration with US
Consulate General, Chennai. 248 students participated in the procession
o 16 day Activism against Gender based Violence was observed from 25th Nov.
2014. Deputy Comm., Law and Order spoke on how cyber space is used by
perpetrators to show girls/women in obscene manners what safety measures to
be followed and how to seek the help of Police personnel.
Students took an oath against gender based violence. Students used Facebook
Whats App, SMS, and other social networking platforms to promote campaign
highlighting violence against women. 1041 LDC students (III year Aided & SF)
were involved in this campaign.
o Palm printing against Gender based violence was held
 at Lady Doak College on 26th Nov.
 at Govt. Law College, Madurai on 2nd Dec.
 at Madura College, Madurai on 8th Dec.
o Valedictory of 16 days of Activism on Human Rights Day on 10th Dec. 2014
o Seven LDC students participated in the Seminar ‘Sexual harassment at Workplace’
at SOCO Trust on 16th Dec 2014.
o SMS campaign in Whatsapp, Face Book and other social networking sites took
place with thought provoking quotes under the main theme ‘Break the Silence
and Stop the Violence” from November 25th – 10th December 2014.

  International Study Centre
- The US Consulate conducted a 3 day programme from the 8th to 10th September
2014, 374 Lady Doak College students participated in this programme.
- S. Santhiya 13ENG041 and Gnanasekaran Vani 13TAM009 are the students selected for
the International Student Exchange Programme 2015 – 2016 to Long Wood University,
USA.
- For the US Consulate Leadership programme, Bala Chidambaraa N (14SOC010), of
Social Sciences was selected at the college level. If she is selected at the national
level she will be attending 6 week leadership programme at US, fully sponsored by
the US Consulate

 Centre for Communication and Multimedia

- The Center for Communication and Multimedia conducted Hands-on Training on 25th
and 26th August 2014 to thirty two teaching faculty drawn from all disciplines. They
were oriented how to register in relevant online courses (MOOCS) and also taught
how effectively the facilities at Multimedia Theatre can be utilized and they had
demonstration on the usage of Interactive White board.

 LDC – Satellite Campus Projects

- A scenic land of about 39 acres, which is about 15km from the existing campus, where
the different project that are going to be undertaken are given in the Master Plan
