HYDRANT SYSTEM

A Fire Hydrant, also called Fireplug, is a connection point by

which firefighters can tap into a water supply. It is a component
of active fire protection.The user attaches a hose to the fire hydrant,
then opens a valve on the hydrant to provide a powerful flow of
water, on the order of 350 kPa (50 lbf/in²) This user can attach this
hose to a fire engine, which can use a powerful pump to boost
the water pressure and possibly split it into multiple streams. One
may connect the hose with a threaded connection, instantaneous
"quick connector" or a Storz connector. A user should take care not to
open or close a fire hydrant too quickly, as this can cause a water
hammer, which can damage nearby pipes and equipment. The water
inside a charged hose line causes it to be very heavy and high water
pressure causes it to be stiff and unable to make a tight turn while
pressurized. When a fire hydrant is unobstructed, this is not a
problem, as there is enough room to adequately position the hose.

SPRINKLER SYSTEM

A fire sprinkler system is an active fire protection method, consisting

of a water supply system, providing adequate pressure and flowrate
to a water distribution piping system, onto which fire Sprinklers are
connected. Although Sprinkler System used in Factories , Ware
Houses ,Storage areas ,High Rise Residential buildings ,commercial
buildings, homes and small buildings , As per hazardous area defined
by standards, Fire sprinkler systems are extensively used worldwide,
with over 40 million sprinkler heads fitted each year. In buildings
completely protected by fire sprinkler systems, over 96% of fires were
controlled by fire sprinklers alone.

FIRE PUMP
A Fire Pump is a part of a fire Hydrant & sprinkler system's water
supply and powered by electric, diesel or steam. The pump intake is
either connected to the public underground water supply piping, or a
static water source (e.g., tank, reservoir,). The pump provides water
flow at a higher pressure to the sprinkler system Risers and Hydrant
Hose standpipes. A fire pump is tested and listed for its use
specifically for fire service by a third-party testing and listing agency,
such as UL or FM Global. Or Indian IS codes , Fire pumps function
either by an Electric motor or a Diesel engine, or, occasionally a steam
turbine. The fire pump starts when the pressure in the fire sprinkler
system drops below a threshold. The sprinkler system pressure drops
significantly when one or more Fire Sprinklers are exposed to heat
above their design temperature, and opens, releasing water.
Alternately, other Fire Hoses reels or other firefighting connections
are opened, causing a pressure drop in the fire fighting main.
Types of pumps used for fire service include: horizontal split case,
vertical split case, vertical inline, vertical turbine, and end suction.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER

A Fire Extinguisher, or is an active fire protection device used to

extinguish or control small fires, often in emergency situations. It is
not intended for use on an out-of-control fire, such as one which has
reached the ceiling, endangers the user (i.e., no escape route, smoke,
explosion hazard, etc.), Typically, a fire extinguisher consists of a
hand-held cylindrical pressure vessel containing an agent which can
be discharged to extinguish a fire.
There are two main types of fire extinguishers: stored-pressure and
cartridge-operated. In stored pressure units, the expellant is stored in
the same chamber as the firefighting agent itself. Depending on the
agent used, different propellants are used. With dry chemical
extinguishers, nitrogen is typically used; water and foam extinguishers
typically use air. Stored pressure fire extinguishers are the most
common type. Cartridge-operated extinguishers contain the expellant
gas in a separate cartridge that is punctured prior to discharge,
exposing the propellant to the extinguishing agent. Cartridge
operated extinguishers are available in dry chemical and dry powder
types ,and in water, wetting agent, foam, dry chemical (classes ABC
and B.C.), and dry powder (class D) types in the rest of the world.

FIRE ALRAM

A fire alarm system is number of devices working together to detect

and warn people through visual and audio appliances
when smoke, fire, carbon monoxide or other emergencies are
present. These alarms may be activated automatically from smoke
detectors, and heat detectors or may also be activated via manual fire
alarm activation devices such as manual call points or pull stations.
Alarms can be either motorized bells or wall mountable sounders or
horns. They can also be speaker strobes which sound an alarm,
followed by a voice evacuation message which warns people inside
the building not to use the elevators. Fire alarm sounders can be set
to certain frequencies and different tones including low, medium and
high, depending on the country and manufacturer of the device.
