Calculation of Flow Duration Curve
Calculation of Flow Duration Curve
1. PROR Type:
The storage capacity available for this project is 1036 million m3. This storage capacity is utilized for
the dry month where the river flow rate is usually very less, so that additional flow can be created
with the help of stored water in order to increase the generation capacity. From the available data of
river flow it is seen that flow rate is less in month November-May. Thus, during this period the plant
is used as peak load plant operating 4 hours a day. So, volume of water is stored during 20 hours
when the plant is operating.
Hence, from the flow duration curve Q25 = 1045 m3/sec, which is considered as the design flow for
the plant.
ANALYSIS:
From the curve sown in figure 4, the deficit and surplus power for various months is shown in table
given below,
The above analysis shows the capacity of ROR and PROR plant obtained from available monthly
discharge data of river. The analysis have been done till 2017 showing the status of surplus and
deficit power after injection of these power into NEA power system. It shows that huge amount of
power could be exported via cross border transmission line to India.
Since I have shown the procedures regarding ROR and PROR plant in this blog, if you find problems
regarding storage type hydro power plant then please feel free to contact me.
Next blog would be about power evacuation techniques and procedures from these hydro-power
plants.
