Up For Debate: Essential Question: Driving Questions

This document outlines a debate unit for middle school students. The unit will teach students how to effectively research topics, form arguments, find flaws in reasoning, and conduct a debate following the Middle School Public Debate Program model. Students will be placed into groups to research topics, finding both supporting and opposing views. They will then prepare flow sheets and participate in two rounds of debates to practice the skills learned. The unit aims to help students learn how to use their voice to bring attention to issues and positively impact their community through persuasive communication and consideration of different perspectives.
