Presets
INFORMATION SHEET
1 INTRODUCTION
This document describes how to use the NV transmitter’s local or remote advanced user
interface (AUI) to configure an HD PowerBoost preset.

1.1 Equipment Affected

This procedure applies to NV series transmitters that have been factory equipped or field
modified with the Nautel Part # NAE104/01 or NAE105/01 Digital Exciter and have the
PowerBoost license enabled.

1.1.1 Minimum Software Required

NV SW version 3.0. This is included with NV transmitters containing the exciters referenced
in paragraph 1.1.

1.2 Responsibility for Implementation of Procedure

This procedure should be carried out by qualified station maintenance personnel who are
familiar with the operation of NV series transmitters.

1.3 Scheduling
This procedure must be performed when operation with a PowerBoost preset is desired. The
transmitter can remain “on air” during this procedure.

1.4 Manpower Requirements

Implementing this modification will require approximately 10 minutes.

1.5 Special Tools/Test Equipment

None.

1.6 Publications Affected

This modification does not affect the NV series documentation. AUI screens that are pertinent
to configuring HD PowerBoost presets are included in this document.

2 CONFIGURING A POWERBOOST PRESET
Configure an HD PowerBoost preset, using the AUI on the local front panel or remotely
accessed web-interface as follows:

NOTE
It is recommended that a user configuring an HD PowerBoost preset be familiar with the
transmitter’s AUI. As necessary, refer to “Section 2: Operating the Transmitter” of the NV
Operations and Maintenance Manual for detailed information on the AUI and its Presets
page.

In order to enable HD PowerBoost, you must use the AUI’s Presets page to either load an
existing PowerBoost preset or create a new PowerBoost preset. For general details on
loading, editing and activating a preset, refer to the “Editing and Saving Presets” paragraph
under “Operating Presets” in Section 2 of the NV Operations and Maintenance Manual. For
specific detail on creating HD PowerBoost presets, follow the naming convention described
below:

For PowerBoost presets, the name must begin with the characters ‘PB’ (not case sensitive),
followed by one or two numbers that indicate the IBOC power injection ratio levels, and finally
the characters ‘dBc’. See Figure 1 for examples of this naming convention.

Injection ratios, which can be expressed in 0.1 dB increments, represent the nominal
symmetric MP1 level. If only one number appears in the preset name, a symmetric mode is
selected. If two numbers appear in the preset name, the first number is applied to the lower
sideband and the second number to the upper sideband. The two numbers can be separated
via spaces or slashes. The ‘–‘ sign is optional.

The preset injection field (see Figure 2) is ignored in PowerBoost mode; it should be set to
-20 dB at all times.

Examples of -10 dB, -20 dB

and -14 dB symmetric
PowerBoost presets

Examples of asymmetric mode

PowerBoost presets. First number
applies to lower sideband; second
number to upper sideband.

3 RESUMING TRANSMITTER OPERATION

This completes the procedure. Select (activate) the desired preset for transmitter operation.
