Chords and Inversions

A chord consists of two or more notes played together. A triad is a three note chord with notes stacked in thirds. A major triad has a major third on bottom and minor third on top, while a minor triad is the reverse. Both have a perfect fifth from bottom to top. There are also diminished and augmented triads distinguished by their thirds. Chords can be written in three inversions, changing the lowest note.
