Read entire “LEED Green Building Rating Systems” and on to end of Chapter.
Skipped Studio 4 Project
Chapter 4 through 10 I skipped since you went over them in the core concepts. I did look
at each sections ‘Credit Matrix’ though.
Read Pages 205 and 206 (Orgo Chart and 6 steps to certification)
Read Page 209 (Project Checklist Sample)
Looked at Page 210 (Credit form Sample)
Skimmed Page 212 (Commissioning Process)

My test was on a Monday and I started studying Sunday morning and did that most of the
day. On Monday I just read through the Treatment by LEED.. document and the 101
questions just before the test.
My results:
178 - 170 to Pass
Section Performance:
Percent
Category Correct
Synergistic Opportunities and LEED Application Process 88%
Project Site Factors 69%
Water Management 92%
Project Systems and Energy Impacts 89%
Acquisition, Installation, and Management of Project
Materials 91%
Stakeholder Involvement in Innovation 67%
Project Surroundings and Public Outreach 100%
I wouldn’t say to spend a lot more time than I did as listed above. If you didn’t take the
Turner Instructor led course you may just want to skim through the packet. Most of the
info of the course is covered in all I read but items that say ‘know this’ may be helpful.
Eg. ‘Know what 4 factors can affect certification fee: Membership to USGBC, Size of
Building (sf), expedited/not expedited, and rating system’
By looking at my section performances you can see where I could have read up on some
more info. So you can then hit those sections I didn’t do so hot in a little more.
Read and know the entire Treatment by LEED for CFC info. Know about how HFCs,
CFCs, and HCFCs all affect the ozone, affect global warming and their thermodynamic
efficiencies all in relation to each other. Know all the natural refrigerants. Know what
halons do (harm ozone) and where they’re used (fire suppression). Know about phase out
restriction (how long you have to phase out CFC from old hvac system or if you have to
have a phase out plan) of CFC in renovating and replacing only parts of old HVAC
systems and not the entire system.

Read Guidance on Innovation & Design (ID) Credits
Know who reviews your CIR and who MAY review it.
Know what a FTE is and how it’s calculated and occupancy requirements.
You already know you can only get 1 point for having a LEED AP on a project.
Know where you can get green energy from and how it’s measured.
Know what a green roof is and what you can do to make one.
Know what can be done to capture storm water runoff on a site with limited urban space
available. Options: Direct line to storm sewer, oil separation tank, some kind of pond
(can’t remember what kind), and some green area. I was between the first two since the
last two take up space.
All in all it should not take you more than two days to study for this thing (weekend).
