Iep Lesson Plan
Theme of Class / Skill Area Targeted: The type of essay the class is learning to
write these weeks is comparison and contrast essays. They’ve created outlines and
looked at the components of comparison and contrast essays.
Background: This week and the past week we’ve learned about different type of body
paragraphs like point-by-point and body paragraphs. Learning one application of APA
style has also been a daily routine lately since they are learning to write more academic
papers.
Objectives:
● Terminal – Students should be able to write their own comparison and contrast
introductions for their essay topics
● Enabling – Students should be able to write introductions for comparison or
contrast essays.
Class Procedure:
8:15--> APA Routine
● (20 min) Review/Warm-up
o Students have their partners or “best friend” for the day projected on the
board and they sit together”
o Ask the students to to remember the APA rules they learned in class.
o On the board there will be missing in text citations that are numbered. The
bottom of the projected image will have the references numbered to go in
the text.
o Students will practice citing references in text
o Another image is projected this time it is an article and its abstract.
o Students will practice citing the article in APA style not in text.
o Remind students this is for practice and perfection is not expected of them
yet
● (1 min) Objectives Overview
o Students will be able to recognize and produce introduction paragraphs
● (40 min) PPP
o Revise the components of an introduction paragraph like Hook,
Background and Thesis.
● (4 min) Review
● Have students start to work on their own introductions for their essay.
Reflections: One thing I hadn’t thought too much about was the time spent
collaboration between best friends. Though I knew they would need that time to talk
about their introductions I wish I allotted more time on the lesson plan for this. The goal
for next time is to have a more realistic expectation of how much time is needed for
productive skills.
