This document contains 8 questions regarding digital signal processing and digital filter design. The questions cover topics such as converting between IIR and lattice filter structures, determining if a filter has linear phase, designing filters to certain specifications using different methods, calculating phase and group delay, and determining output noise power from quantization. The document provides tasks to test understanding of key concepts in digital filter design.

Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering

CODE: ECPC41 REG. No. :

DEGREE : B.TECH. (ECE) SEMESTER : IV
SUBJECT : DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING DATE : 20.3.2018
MAX.MARKS: 20 DURATION : 1 hour

ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS MARKS

1. Convert the following IIR filter into a lattice structure.

(2)

2. Convert the following FIR lattice filter coefficients into direct form structure

k1=(1/2)
(2)
k2=(1/3)

k3=(1/4)

3. Consider the filter has coefficients h(n)={-1,0,1}. Whether this filter is a

(1)
linear phase filter? Justify your answer.

4. Design a digital filter which has characteristics that it has minimum noise,
current output does not depend on past output and it allows all the
frequencies lower than cutoff frequency π/4 and also add an additional
(4)
sample which has magnitude value 0.5 at transition band using the method
that has discrete finite frequency samples. Take the length of the filter
coefficients=15.

5. Calculate the phase delay and group delay for the given difference equation
y(n)=0.25x(n)+x(n-1)+0.25x(n-2) (2)

1
6. Design a digital filter which can be termed as pole-zero filter and their
transition band is more using the transformation that infinite number of
poles that map to the same location in Z plane. Assume sampling period
T=1sec (4)
Pass band gain =0.8
Stop band gain =0.2
Pass band frequency=0.2

Stop band frequency=0.6

7. Design a digital filter which has characteristics that all poles are less than
unity and it allows all frequencies lower than cutoff frequency 3π/4.Take the
length of the filter coefficients = 7 using the method that has to overcome (3)
ripples in both Pass band & stop band and that method has a finite duration
function which has value of unity during that duration, hence this method is
used to obtain finite no of filter coefficients.

8. The output of an A/D converter is applied to a digital filter with the system
function. Find the output noise power from the digital filter when the input (2)
signal is quantized to have eight bits (excluding sign bits).
