Step By Step document to Setup Windows 7/10 VPN Client to VPN

1. For bringing “network and sharing center’ in windows 7 Right click network connection icon in
task bar and select “Open network and sharing center in windows

on “Network and sharing center”.

2. Choose connect to a workplace option and click next.
3. Select create a new connection and hit next.

4. Select Use my Internet Connection (VPN)


5. Enter the IP address of ASA’s WAN interface. Leave destination name field as default. Select
Remember my credential and Allow other people use this connection and click on Create
button.

6. On Network and sharing center , choose Change adapter settings option on the left pane of the
window
7. Right click the recently created adapter L2TP VPN and choose properties.

8. Navigate to Security tab, choose the type of VPN as Layer 2 Tunneling protocol with IPsec
(L2TP/IPsec) and then click on advance settings.
9. Enter the pre-shared key and click OK. In this example “Pakistan” is used as the pre-shared key.

10. Choose the authentication method as Allow these protocol and ensure that only “ Microsoft
CHAP version 2” (MS-CHAP v2) check box is checked and click ok
11. Under networking tab select Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IP v4) and click on its properties.
Select option Use the following DNS server address. Enter DNS server IP address which is
“172.16.1.12” then click advance and click on DNS tab. Enter fazaiakarachi.ad under DNS suffix
for the connection. Click Ok

12. Under network connection, right click on L2TP VPN adapter and choose Connect/Disconnect.
Enter User Name and password and click Connect.
13. If the required parameters are matched on both the ends, L2TP/IPsec connection will be
established.
