PROJECT PROPOSAL GUIDE

Introduction
Project is a compulsory part of the program structure in the Bachelor in Computer
Science and Bachelor in Information and Communication Technology. It builds on the
skills and knowledge learned in the first two and half years; to enable students to use
these to demonstrate competence in the theory and practice of computer science, and
information and communication technology.

Aims of Project

The main aims of this project are:

1. To provide students with a realistic group experience in designing, implementing
and documenting computer, multimedia, and graphics products in the form of
applications, systems, design, etc. based on the needs of clients/stakeholders.
2. To let students apply their knowledge and skills in handling tasks with appropriate
tools.
3. To provide a learning environment for students to independently manage their
projects under supervision.
4. To build students’ ability to present and rationalize their work with confidence and
logics.
5. To enable the students to delegate tasks and work as a team, and manage their
project time and budget accordingly.

Details of Chapters

CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this chapter is to state the research problems/issues/ hypotheses that
will be examined in the project paper. This should provide the background of the study
and indicate to the reader in general terms what the research intends to study.

i. Background of the Project – This section briefly introduces the field of the
project that is undertaken. This includes background of the organization, the
current situation, the current technology in the field, etc.
ii. Problem Statement – This section should inform the reader with the problem
to be dealt with, by establishing a frame of reference for the problem. This
section should identify the problems encountered so that the project will have a
basis to work on in solving the problems.
iii. Objective(s) of the Project, Research Questions and/or Hypotheses – This
section should describe in detail, the research objectives, research questions,
and/or hypotheses of the research.
iv. Scope of the Project – This section should state the scope to be covered for
the project.
v. Significance of the Project – This section should state the contribution of the
research to theory, practice and policy.
vi. Limitations of the Project – This section should discuss the
limitations/constraints of the study.
vii. Definition of Terms. This section provides operational definitions of all
principal variables in the study.
viii. Significance of the Project. This section should state the contribution of the
research to theory, practice and policy.
ix. Scope of the Project. This section should state the scope to be covered for
the project.
x. Assumption(s) and Limitation(s). This section let the researcher sets any
assumption that might influence the result of the research. This section should
discuss the limitations/constraints of the study.

CHAPTER II: LITERATURE REVIEW

The main purpose of the literature review chapter is to expand upon the context and
background of the study, to further define the problem, and to provide empirical and
theoretical bases for the research. This chapter can be divided into three main sections:

i. Review of Current Situation

This section can be subdivided into subsections. The researcher will provide a
complete review of current situation, which can be the current processes,
problems faced, and any other issues related to the research.

ii. Review of Related Literature

This section can be subdivided into subsections. In this section, the researcher
will do a thorough review of related researches that were carried out and formally
published. The source of literature can be from journals, white papers, working
papers, reports, books, news releases, magazines, and any other academic

3/7
papers. All citations, including ideas, work, results, data, etc from these
resources must be properly acknowledged in a detailed reference/bibliography
(Refer Appendix C).

iii. Review of Related Products

This section can be divided into subsections. The researcher will conduct a
review on any product similar or related to the project. This section will give a
thorough description of the product(s) and the source of the information must be
properly stated in the reference/bibliography.

CHAPTER III: RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

The research design and methodology chapter describes the approach and
methodology used. This section consists of the introduction, the research approach, the
workflow model, the algorithm, the research model (if any), the methods of data
collection, the analysis of research data.

i. Research/Project Methodology
This section provides the detailed explanation/description of any research such
as survey, interview, observation, experiment, testing, etc that will be carried out
before and/or after the research/product development.

ii. Development Methodology

The researcher should propose a suitable methodology that will be used for the
research/product development.

iii. Tools and Hardware

This section will cover the details of tools and hardware that will be used
throughout the period of the research. The tools can include questionnaires,
interview questions, software, etc, while the hardware will be confined to the
tangible equipments used for the experiment, development, testing, etc.

iv. Project Schedule

This section shows the proposed detailed planning of the tasks that will be
carried out from the inception of the research until the end of the research. A
proper graphical representation of the project schedule should be provided in the
form of Gantt chart, PERT chart, or any other standard representations.

v. Project Organization (only for projects with 2-3 team members)

This section will show the proposed project management team and the proper
tasks delegation for each team member based on the proposed job scope.

CHAPTER IV: SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

This chapter will provide the summary of the proposed project and a concluding text to
wrap up the proposal.
