Created By:-
Hetal, Sheetal, Khushboo,Bhupesh & Lalit
On 5th May 2010 we, students of LJICA 4th Semester had a visit to a Divya Bhaskar
printing press, Ahmedabad. All the procedures & functions of printing were explained and
demonstrated to us. It was an informative and enterprising experience for us.

Our Faculty Memebers Mr. Jignesh Doshi and Mr. Bahvin Shah arranged this visit and
select 15 students to have such a Marvellous Experience from one of the Asia biggest Printing
Press. Divya Bhaskar is approximate about 15 km on the outskirts from ahmedabad.

[Entrance Of Divya Bhaskar Press.]

We were attended by Mr. Yogesh , Staff Member of Divya Bhaskar Press. He is a Mech. Eng
and Very Kind, Cooperative Person . He took us to every single process which happens daily
for a Newspaper production.

[Paper Roll Setup machine]

Mr. Yogesh First Took us to Paper Roll Setup Machine, Which takes care of Continous
Flow of papers throughout the Printing Process and also handles damaged papers (if any).

Diameter & weight of Each paper roll is about 1250 mm and 769 kg, and one roll can make
approximately 35000 copies.
[ Ink Management Unit. ]

They Use CYMB (Cyan,Yellow,Magenta and Black ) combination for Printing. Daily
Consumption of the ink in plant is about 1600 kilos (600 consumption of black and 1000
consumption of rest). To maintain the level of ink in all other machineries , They use “Air-
Pressure Mechanism ” .

Actually they mix water with the ink . The blurring of images sometimes in the
newspaper is actually the result of improper propotion of this mixture.(water+Ink). They use
“RO water “ for mixing.

[Air-Genrator]

The Above picture shows the “Air-Compressor” which automatically generate air for
“Air-Pressure Mechanism” used in Ink Management Unit.
Mr. Yogesh after that introduced us to the “Plate-Creation Unit” . This Unit also handles
Server and Final Editing Work.

Here, They collect “pdf” file of newspaper at around 11:30 pm daily and within 10 min
they starts with “Plate Creation work”.

They use “Navigator (RIP)” for setting colors and “Acrobat” for genral use.

Their Server name is CPT-2 and have Windows Server 2003 as Server OS.

Plate is Actually responsible for putting impression according to the image on paper. The
Creation of Plate is handle in this section. It is colour clotted aluminium plate, sensitive to
white light.

One Plate Goes through the all the above shown machines and the final plate comes out
with the image imposed on it. For same page four different plates are created of four
different colours (CYMB).
This Above machine impose impression on paper from plate. Each page goes through all
the four different colour plates.

Main controlling of machineries are done from here , like how much percentage of inks
level, defects while printing etc.
They have nine towers each do the same printing job. As according to the need they
activtates towers from here. Capacity of each tower is 85,000 papers / hour.

Now , after done with all the printing process, papers are cut-down and folded for
packing in bunches automatically.

After that we had a one-to-one Conversation with Production Manager. He Openly

discuss our visit and also give answers to our queries.

These all Machineries are exported from Germany’s company “KBA Presma” and the Net
cost is around 250 Crore . Any Mistakes in the Machineries and software are rectified online
from Germany.

Cleaning cost of this Unit is around 1.50 lakhs per day and each paper is costing 6 Rs but
inspite of that their selling price of each paper is around 3 Rs. They earn most of their profit
from advertisement.

In Only Short Span of Time they really establish themseleves strongly with Quality in
Market
We are thankful to our Director Sir Mr. Prassanna and our faculty
members Mr. Jignesh Doshi and Mr. Shah for putting so much
effort and arranging such an informative trip for us .
Thank You
