GEOMAGIC SOLUTIONS?
There are four license types for Geomagic software solutions. Each license type is
often referred to by their three-letter code. For example, a virtual dongle is also
called ONA. An explanation of each license type is provided below.
• The Virtual Dongle is the most common license type for Geomagic products.
Licenses of this type are always stored on a centrally located server (hosted
by FlexNet). This license type requires an Internet connection, however it
can be used offline for up to 30-days once activated if needed.
• For this type of license the user is provided with a 16-digit activation code.
Each time an activation code is used the machine takes one seat away from
the pool of licenses associated with that activation code. If a user has
activated the maximum number of machines allowed by their activation
code then they must first manually deactivate one machine prior to
activating the software on a new machine.
• While licenses utilizing a Virtual Dongle can be used offline, the software
does attempt to "phone home" upon launch to validate the machine in
question. If no Internet connection can be established then the software will
run for up to 30-days offline at which point an Internet connection will be
needed.
• The Physical USB Dongle License is a special type of license sold that works
in conjunction with a physical USB dongle. Multiple products, but only a
single seat of each may be stored on a single dongle of this type.
• The Virtual Dongle with Network Sharing is an enterprise solution for users
wishing to control the distribution of their purchased licenses across a
network. An initial Internet connection is required of the customer's server
to activate. Virtual machines and proxies are not supported.
• This license type uses the commonly utilized Flexera licensing solution as
is compatible with LMTools and FlexNet Publisher. This method of licensing
does not use a license file on the customer's server, but instead relies on
trusted storage. While licenses of this type are managed by a customer's
server, the license information must first be downloaded from a centrally
located server (hosted by FlexNet) by entering an activation code into a
server-side licensing tool.
• Once a customer's server has been activated, client machines can then
connect to that server and check-out licenses to run a product.
• The Floating USB Dongle license is a special type of license sold that works
in conjunction with a physical USB dongle and a server to distribute licenses
across a network. This option is typically reserved for "dark sites" where
machines operate on a local intranet. Licenses of this type are hardcoded
onto the dongle itself. Multiple products and multiple seats may be stored on
a single dongle of this type.
