ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION
Online learning refers to the use of technology in learning and education. The courses and the
materials developed in the online platform have gained significant popularity in this generation
as they are student centered, flexible in time and space. It is also noteworthy for its instant
feedback, results and access to experts.
The aim of this report is to describe one such online course material developed for all branches
of engineering.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Engineering is a broad disciple which is often broken down into several sub-disciplines. These
disciplines concern themselves with differing areas of engineering work. It is practically difficult
to impart the knowledge of this vast science in a time bound classroom environment. In such a
situation ensuring the availability of structured digital content in virtual environment will be of
immense help to student community.
OBJECTIVE
DESCRIPTION
The course materials are developed for engineering courses like Computer Science and
Engineering, Electronics and Communication in Engineering, Electrical and Electronics
Engineering, Civil Engineering, Information Technology, Textile Technology and Mechanical
Engineering.
The materials are designed in a highly interactive virtual environment and are password
protected. They are developed in such a way that the content cannot to be edited or tampered.
The content is highly authentic and accurate as they are prepared and delivered by subject
experts from national and international institutes of repute like MIT, IIT, Anna University etc.
The access to course materials is user friendly. Separate links are provided for each branch of
engineering which lead to topics of specializations. The links to topics further lead to lessons or
modules. The lessons are mostly power point presentations and video lectures. Theoretical
lectures are followed by practical demonstrations and simulations and they are developed using
animation software. The lessons are followed by interactive quizzes and games to make learning
and assessment interesting. An option for chat is also available for clarification of doubts with
experts. In addition to the curriculum, lessons on recent trends in engineering and technology are
provided. All the lessons are downloadable in nature.
CONCLUSION
The online course materials that are developed for all branches of engineering contain power
point presentations and audio- video lectures by experts from reputed universities. The materials
are student centric, easy to access, downloadable and user friendly.
