COURSE DESCRIPTION: The real number system; plane analytic geometry and conic
sections; limits and continuity; differentiation and integration of algebraic functions

PREREQUISITE: MATH 17: College Algebra and Plane Trigonometry

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the course, the student must be able to:

1. sketch conic sections,


2. find the limit of a function, if it exists,
3. determine continuity of a function at a number and on an interval,
4. find the derivative of a function,
5. solve problems using derivatives,
6. find the antiderivative of a function, and
7. find the area of a plane region using integrals.

GRADING SYSTEM:
The prefinal standing will be computed as follows:

2 Departmental Exams 60%


Exercises/ Quizzes (Cumulative) 40%

A student whose prefinal standing is 75% or better will be exempted from taking the Final
Exam and his/her prefinal standing will be his/her final standing. The final standing of a
student who took the Final Exam will be computed as follows:

POLICIES:
1. The university policy on attendance will be implemented. A student whose absences
exceed 14 days may be given a grade of 5.0.
2. The final exam will replace at most one examination missed due to an excused
absence.
3. For excused absences, a duly signed excuse slip must be submitted within a week
after the student’s return.
4. Make-up exercise will be given only to those whose absence is excused.
5. The validated UPLB ID should always be worn while inside the university premises.
