The day that i will never forget

“This is going to be my best day ever,” is the first thing I say when I wake
up. My name is Mohd Zainulrin and today I just turned 17. I feel as great as a
king. I walk into the kitchen and see a memo on the fridge.
“Boy, Mum and dad are out visiting friends. We should be back before
midnight.
Love, Mum”

I read it, feeling disappointed, but I won’t let it spoil my day.

I go to school and it seems to me that the other students are avoiding me.
“I’m wearing a shirt, I zipped my jeans, what do they think is wrong with me? Did
I grow a horn on my forehead? Nonsense!” I mumble to myself. Maybe it’s
already time for their class. I walk into my class and go to my seat but suddenly
everyone is staring at me like I’m an alien.
I run to the toilet and stare at my face in the mirror. “Nothing weird, not
even a dot on my face,” I say to myself. I go back to class and sit down like
nothing ever happened. But something’s definitely up. No one’s congratulating
me on my birthday, my 17th birthday no less. Maybe they’ve forgotten about it.
“That’s fine, I still have Azwan. Maybe he has something up his sleeve.” I
try to make my brain think on the bright side. I don’t want to spoil my best day
ever, but things get weirder and weirder.
“Ring!!!” the school bell rings. Azwan is already waiting for me at the gate.
“Do you know what today means to me?” I ask. “Err... I have no idea,” he replies.
What? I’m shocked that my best friend forgot my birthday. What kind of person
forgets his own best friend’s birthday?
I reach my house and Azwan keeps on walking to his house. I feel upset
because no one’s acting normally. It seems that everyone is avoiding me. “I
should take a nap,” I say, then jump on the couch and fall asleep.
“Ti neet! Ti neet!” my cell phone beeps. I have a text message. It’s from
Laila my girlfriend: “Come to my house tonight. I have something to say.” Finally,
someone who hasn’t forgotten the happiest day in my life ever. My heart bursts
with happiness and joy. “I wonder what she’ll give me? I don’t care, all I want
right now is somebody who can make me happy.” I feel so happy that I want to
jump and scream. I better prep myself up, I don’t want to look hideous tonight.
“All set up to go, I’m wearing my ‘bathing ape’ shirt and the new sneakers I
bought last week,” I say to myself in the mirror. I make my way to Laila’s house.
She seems to be waiting for me. “Hello Laila!” I say to her enthusiastically. “Hi,”
she replies shortly. She’s not smiling at all. “What’s up? You look depressed,” I
ask her. “Sorry Zack, but I have to tell you the truth,” she answers quietly. “I don’t
get it,” I say to her. “I don’t like you!” she bursts out.

“You what?” I expected a great present, a “Happy birthday dear” from her.
“That’s it, it’s already a bad day for me, my best friend forgot about my birthday,
everyone at school gaped at me like I was an alien and now you!” I shout. Laila
walks to me and catches my hand. “Sorry Zack, I didn’t mean to, but it’s all about
our feelings right now,” she says softly. I turn to look at her. “Actually, I like your
best friend Azwan.” The second shock of the evening. First her earlier
declaration, and now this. “I don’t know what to say,” I tell her, trying to control
my temper.
Suddenly the door opens, and Azwan comes out from the kitchen. He
walks towards me and Laila. She grabs his hand and look at me. “Better make
your way,” he says to me, his voice low, but he has a sneering look on his face. I
swing my first towards him and bam, he falls down. Laila screams out loud,
breaking the silence of the night. I make my way out of the house. I figure this will
be the last time I come here, so I slam the door loudly.
“This is my worst day ever,” I sigh to myself. I look at my fist. It’s still red.
This is the first time I hit Azwan. “Argh, what in the world was I thinking,” I scream
out loud. I’ll apologise to him tomorrow. “I’m seventeen now, I need to think as an
adult, not a teenager,” I say to myself. I open the door to my house and it seems
very dark but my dad’s car is outside.
Suddenly, mum and dad appear from the dark, both of them looking sad.
“What’s going on, mum?” I ask curiously. “We want you to be calm and accept
out decision,” mum says, as she leads me inside.
“Happy birthday!” all of my friends shout out loud. All of the lights come on
and I can see decorations all over my house. “I’m speechless,” I say to my
friends. Suddenly, Azwan runs in from the kitchen and swings his fist at my face.
“You owe me one, dude,” he says with a smile. Laila comes out and helps me up.
“Laila, was all that you said then just a joke?” I ask, already forgetting about the
pain of Azwan’s punch. “Yes, silly, I really like you,” she says with a smile and a
little laughs. She pulls my ear and says, “Happy birthday dear,” and blows me a
kiss.
Everyone laughs and then they bring out the cake. Tonight is the happiest
moment in my life ever. This is the day that I lost my temper but in the end
everything worked out fine.
Write a short story ending with the following sentences. “ I shall never forget this
day for the rest life”.

I just could not take my eyes away from the empty chair in front of me. It was just too
difficult to concentrate on the task in from of me – my Chemistry exam. So much has
happened in just twenty-four hours.

Twenty-four hours ago, Rahim was sitting in front of me, struggling with the History
exam. He was so relieved when the exam was over. We went to our usual hangout with
the gang. He ordered his usual ‘teh tarik’ and I noticed that he looked a little under the
weather. He brushed it aside as ‘exam fever’ Little did I know that it would be the last
time I would see him alive.

Later that night. I received a call from Aunty Elena. She told me that Rahim had
been admitted to the hospital for suspected dengue fever. Then, she paused for what
seemed like ages and said in a tearful voice, “Rahim has left us. He slipped into a coma
and never regained consciousness.” I could not recall how I spent the rest of the night. I
only remembered calling our friends and we went to Rahim’s house.

I looked at my friends who were writing furiously and I wondered whether they were
struggling like me. I glanced at my watch and realized that it was already 10.30 in the
morning. We would be going for the funeral prayers in about an hour. How was I going
to say goodbye to my dear friend, my mentor and my counselor? He was there for me
when my father passed away three years ago and he had always been like a big brother to
me. I could still hear his jokes, his clowning around with us after the exam. How could I
not know that he was sick?

The examination hall was unusually quiet. Miss Jeya signaled us to get into her car.
Tears blurred my vision. I suddenly remembered the last time we were together in her
car. We were going for a debate competition and Rahim was our first speaker. He made
us laugh at his jokes till our sides ached.

At the service, Aunty Elena looked calm as we took our places. Then, it was time for
the prayers. There are a quite a number of people performing the prayers including us his
classmates.. After performing the prayers, I took a deep breath. I wanted to say a few
words when I gave my last respect and to see his face for the last time but I choked.
Aunty Elena looked at me and nodded encouragingly. Then, I say my goodbye and my
last words to him. As my voice wavered , I knew Rahim was listening and I felt at
peace. Goodbye, my friend, till we meet again. I shall never forget this day for the rest
of my life.
I still remember that glorious day …
I still remember that glorious day. It is one of my special days in my life. Last
month, the social science society of my school held a sport carnival in conjunction with
the co-curriculum week. Many sports were held. Volleyball, netball, basketball, futsal
and many more. Indoor games such as chess and scrabble were also not forgotten. The
interschool carnival was held for a whole day.
As a skillful student, I participated in futsal. I made my own team which I named
‘My Team’. The opening ceremony of the carnival was quite grand. There were Kadet
Remaja Sekolah, Scouts, St John and also a guest band. I like the band very much. They
played the music soft and nice with their simple uniform. After the principal and the
president of the social science society had delivered their speech, the carnival was
officiated. ‘Let the game begins’ was a shout I heard from somewhere. It made me
motivated to win the game.
All of the participants took their places by 9 o’clock. I was at the futsal arena at
that time but I had no idea where my teammates were. Our game would be starting about
5 minutes. I sweated like a pig not because I was tired, but I tried to figure out where my
teammates went. Suddenly, I heard someone shouted my name. Luckily it was Sam, my
teammate. As fast as lightning we changed our jersey and began to warm up. The best
thing was we won the first match and managed to proceed to the finals.
I was very happy and satisfied with that result. It was 11 in the morning and my
stomach started to mumble. I could hear, ‘Food! Food!’ being shouted from inside my
tummy. Therefore, I searched for food with my friends. Many stalls were opened on that
day. Each society had their own stall. Snacks like burger, chips and soft drinks were very
easy to be found. I noticed my society the Entrepreneurs society stall. It was decorated
wonderfully. I was totally impressed. However the beauty the stall was not the main
thing. The smell of the food attracted me very much. I ate a lot.
As our game would be continued in the afternoon, we decided to have a walk,
observing the beauty and colourful spots. We dropped by the basketball arena. I noticed
my friend Blue, acting similarly as Kobe Bryant in his game. He managed to score many
points for his team. In my opinion, he would achieve success in his game based on his
abilities in basketball. We continued our walk to other interesting places. We reached the
school hall where the indoor games were held. The hall was decorated very nicely. There
were balloons, colourful murals and many more. Suddenly, my eyes caught the image of
Atek and Akram. They were playing chess. I watched the match between Atek and
Akram until the end. The result – Atek won. Lucky Atek.
As the eye of heaven shines fiercely, all of the participants were given an hour to
rest. I took a short nap after performing my zuhur prayer. Although it was a short while, I
appreciated it very much. It was a time to recharge myself in the quest of grabbing the
futsal cup.
My teammates and I were still working for our next match. Announcement was
made and our squad was called to the futsal arena. This was an important match. We
must win this game. We were to compete against the Red Scorpion team, which was a
very competitive match. However we won the match through determination and some
luck. We then reached the finals. As it was the last game, the opponent became harder to
be defeated. All of my classmates came to watch my game and support My Team. I felt
happy and full of spirit at that time. At the end of the match, the result was still a draw by
no goals. So, penalty shoot out was given. It was now the last shot. If we scored, we
would win but if we failed, we lost. I was given this responsibility. Guest what? I scored
and it was a memorable moment of my life. My teammates thanked me for scoring and I
was selected as the man of the match.
During the closing ceremony, the winners were given medals, cups and prizes.
The principal himself gave out the prizes. I was very proud of myself and my team’s
performance. The carnival was held successfully. I hope next year I’ll have a better result
in other games.

My Pet

I used to have a very special pet, back home, in my country, Lebanon. She was a
very cute cat. My dad gave it to me for my birthday. I named her Gucci because she
was as cute as the clothes. Gucci was very beautiful. She had white fluffy fur, one
blue eye and one green eye, she had a little gray spot on her head and a black spot
on her tail, and she had small legs with very cute paws. When my dad gave her to
me, she was three months old; he brought her back from one of his business trips to
Russia. Gucci was a very smart cat; she used to know my timing for every single
day. She would wake me up in the morning, a couple of minutes before my alarm
clock would sound off, by licking my face. She even knew what time I came home, I
noticed this when I used to hear her clawing at the door of my ho

I even cried on the airplane because I missed her so much. Then, when I opened the
door, she would jump on me and start licking my hand as If she was trying to tell me
that she missed me so much. The best thing that I used to like about her is that she
was a trained cat. I remember that I used to get all happy to know that she was
waiting for me. It was a very sad moment for me, I cried with her the whole time
while I was packing. One time I took her to the shopping mall in Beirut, I carried her
in my purse to every store I went into. In one of the stores she jumped out of my
purse and started running around the store. We finally cornered her in one of the
dressing rooms, and she jumped in my purse as if nothing happened. I would take
her everywhere I went. Till this day, I lie in my bed and wonder what adventures we
would be able to get into here in the United States. Gucci and I would always have
great times together. Then, after she got tired, she would just run to me, sit on my
lap and begin biting my hands as if she wanted me to pet her so she can go to sleep.
It took one of the workers and I to try and catch her.
Myself 1

My name is Ann Smith. I am a senior in high school. Everyone can agree that I am
a good student and that I like to study. My favorite subjects are chemistry and biology.
I am going to enter the university because my goal is to study my favorite subjects in
future and to become a professional in this area.

I can say that I am a responsible and hard-working student. Moreover, being a sociable
person, I have many friends since I like to communicate with people and get acquainted
with new interesting individuals. I enjoy my time at school: it is really nice to study and
the students are very friendly and ready to help. The atmosphere cannot but make me
want to go there every time. I like to receive challenging tasks and cope with them. I am
a very enthusiastic student and I think this is a strong point of mine.

My friends say I am a very funny and interesting girl with a good sense of humor. As
soon as I meet new people who are up to me I feel extremely comfortable with them. I
believe that friendship is one of the most important values in human life. We
exchange new ideas, find many interesting things about each other, have new
experiences. I appreciate friendship and people who surround me.

Myself 2

I am a 17 year old female who has lived in Atlanta, Georgia for all of my life. My family was
raised in the area; my father being a successful Optician and my Mom being a school teacher
for the handicapped. I have 3 brothers and I am the oldest of the children.

Becoming a successful architect is my dream. I have always been interested in the way building
are constructed and I am particularly fond of the Arts and Crafts style homes. Pursuing a
career in this field would be my goal so I am looking into the courses which may help me to reach
that goal.

I love reading and am particularly a fan of anything written by my favorite author: (name the
author) and I am also into music from the 70's. I have been told that I have an artistic flair and
enjoy writing poetry, sketching with charcoal and dabbling in photography.
My family has traveled to a number of states over the years and this has become a passion of
ours. We try to go to a different state and see some historic places on each of our vacations.

One of my fondest memories was spending time visiting historic Williamsburg in Virginia.
There was a lot to see an a lot to learn that I had little knowledge of until that particular trip. It
was a wonderful experience which will stay with me always.
