Chapters Discuss Waiting Line Analysis and Simulation
Chapters Discuss Waiting Line Analysis and Simulation
Queuing
theory
deals
with
problems
which
involve
queuing
(or
waiting).
Typical
examples
might
be:
waiting
lines
in
the
banks,
supermarket.
The
reason
behind
a
queue
formation
is
limitation
of
resources
and
it
makes
an
economic
sense
to
have
queue.
Thus
a
balance
between
a
customer
and
the
resources
has
to
be
maintained
for
efficient
functioning.
Queues
or
waiting
lines
arise
when
the
demand
for
a
service
facility
exceeds
the
capacity
of
that
facility,
that
is,
the
customers
do
not
get
service
immediately
upon
request
but
must
wait,
or
the
service
facilities
stand
idle
and
wait
for
customers.
A
long
system
can
be
breaken
down
into
various
sub
system
which
might
consist
queue
of
some
sort.
Taking
forward
the
example
of
supermarket,
they
must
check
and
decide
the
optimum
number
of
cashiers
and
proper
register
check
in
order
to
open
positions.
Considering
the
sub-‐system,
we
can
consider
dealing
with
the
customer
queuing
for
the
service.
This
the
arrival
process
of
the
customers
such
as
arrival
of
customers
in
a
group
or
individual,
or
time
distribution
of
customers,
finite
or
infinite
population
of
customer.
In
addition
to
this,
requirement
of
service
for
the
customers,
time
duration
of
service,
number
of
servers,
series
of
servers,
and
preemption
allowance
of
the
service
has
to
be
considered.
Characteristics
of
the
queue
such
as
type
of
service
FIFO,
FCFS,
LIFO
have
to
be
decided.
Thus
to
decide
the
components
of
the
model,
The
situation
is
Passage
of
the
customers
during
checkout,
the
arriving
customers
are
the
Shoppers
and
the
service
facility
here
is
the
checkout
counters.
In
our
case
the
calling
population
is
the
shoppers,
while
the
queue
is
for
people
waiting
for
the
checkout
process
and
the
service
mechanism
involves
billing
and
checking
out.

shows
the
components
of
the
Queuing
model.
In
addition
to
this,
the
process
is
a

there
are
