Concrete Structure Design-I Tutorial 3: Slab, Shear, Torsion and Bond
Tutorial 3
Slab, Shear, Torsion and Bond
1. Design a simply supported reinforced concrete slab for an office floor having clear
dimensions 4 m by 10 m with 230 mm walls all around. Live load 4 kN/m2, adopt M
20 grade concrete and Fe 415 grade HYSD bars.
4. A Reinforced concrete beam has a support section with a width 300 mm and effective
depth 600 mm. The support section is reinforced with 3 bars of 200 mm diameter at
an effective depth of 600 mm. 8mm diameter 2 legged stirrups at a spacing of 200
mm is provided as shear reinforcement near the supports using M20 grade concrete
and Fe 415 HYSD bars, estimate the shear strength of the support section.
5. A reinforced concrete beam has cross section 300 mm and 600 mm and is subjected to
the following bending moment is 115kN-m, shear force is 95 kN-m and torsional
moment is 45 kN-m. determine the equivalent bending moment and shear force for
which section is to be designed
6. A reinforced concrete beam of rectangular section with width 350 mm and overall
depth 800 mm is subjected to a factored bending moment of 215 kN-m and ultimate
torsional moment of 105 kN-m. Using M20 grade concrete and Fe 415 HYSD bars
and side, top and bottom cover of 50mm, design suitable reinforcement in the section.
7. An overhanging beam has 6m span from support to support and an overhang for 2m,
it carries a design load of 40kN/m throughout. The cross section of the beam selected
is 250mm by 450 mm. to carry the cantilever moment 4 bars of 20 mm plain bars are
provided with 50 mm effective cover. What is the maximum bond stress developed?
