OBSTETRICS II

Colposcope (Dr. Salvador)


September 2008

Colposcope  Disadvantage: no specimen can be obtained


- Connected to a smoke evacuator  For CIN I and II
- Large loop electrosurgical procedure (LLEP)
- If patient is anxious: mild sedative: ½ tab of medazolam

Vaginal Speculum
- Coated to prevent electrocution
- With in insertion for the tube of evacuator
- Initially apply Lugol’s solution
o If with uptake, normal
o If without uptake, abnormal

Thumb Forcep
- Coated

Lateral Vaginal Retractor


- Blue color
- Used in grand multiparous women
- Lax lateral wall

Anesthesia
- Lidocaine solution
- Xylocane
o Has no epinephrine therefore, patient may bleed a
lot
- Use dental syringe with Potoky needle
- Instill anesthesia to cervix on 4 corners

Cauterization
- Use electrode: with a wire
- Use switch pen
o Yellow: for cutting
o Blue: for coagulation
 Use ball electrode

o For biopsy

- Mon-gin solution
o Paste-like
o To coat sire of coagulation
- Abnormal cervix
o Electrocautery: heat
o Cryotherapy: not used
 Create an iceball
 Done twice
