Abstract
Nowadays the growth of social media leads to the easiness of people to connect to one another,
between old friends, between parents and children, between colleagues, and others. The use of social media
is inevitable for everyday life of every person especially in Indonesia in which social media users are quite a
lot. This study aims to know teacher's perspective towards the emergence of social media among junior
high school students in Solo, Indonesia and its utilization as learning tool. The design of this study is
descriptive qualitative. The data were collected using questionnaire and in-depth interview. It can be
concluded from the research that based on Junior High School English teachers' perspective social media
gives both positive and negative impacts towards learning process and students achievement in ELT
classroom depending on how teachers utilize the social media for ELT Classroom. It is suggested for ELT
teachers to use social media in the classroom wisely so students can get benefit of the emergence of social
media.

Introduction Methods
Technology development brings positive impact for the use of technology
in many aspects of life. Specifically, the development of mobile device into

Junior high school English teachers in the use of social media in the learning process show positive trend in
which teachers choose to use social media as a task at home rather than to use it in the classroom. The use
of social media in learning English is by giving them the task of English speaking and then posting the
English video on social media accounts. Social medial can also be used to implement learning materials
such as telling the experience, as well as making a description.

Conclusion
From the explanation above we know that some teachers use social media as learning tool in the teaching and
learning process, and even for giving students' assignment. Teachers in the classroom tend to use the social media for
sharing knowledge between the members of the classroom. Nevertheless, some other teachers see that social media
give bad influence towards students' learning process, since students who use a lot of social media tend to get lower
learning outcomes than those who do not actively use social media. This study suggests that the use of social media for
learning is better implemented outside the classroom as a learning task and should be supervised and limited by parents
at home.
