Note : Buoyancy force is not considered for checking maximum pressure as it would reduce
the maximum pressure. Hence O.K.

But buoyancy force is considered for checking loss of contact.

As seen from the above table, net pressure below is less than safe bearing capacity of soil,
Hence footing size is adequate.

Further maximum bearing pressure is equal to 112.6 KN/m2 which is quite less than safe bearing
capacity equal to 128.5 KN/m2, the size of the footing is governed by
contact area.(EQ.Operating + Seismic) . Hence O.K.

SAMPLE CALCULATIONS FOR STABILITY CHECK :

Note : Sample calculation has been provided only for one load combination i.e Equip. Empty + Wind.
For other load combinations, calculations have been done on similar lines.

1 Downward stabilizing force = Dead load (Erection or Empty) + Weight of pedestal - Buoyancy Force (B)
( For Stabilty Check )

= 0 + 1278.38 + - 365.25

= 913.13 KN

2 For Factor Of Safety Against Overturning :

Overturning Moment = Moment @ base of eqpt + Horizontal shear @ base of eqpt x Z

where Z = lever arm = pedestal ht above FGL + foundation depth below FGL

= 256.565 + 43.97 x ( 3.5 )

= 410.46 KN-m

Restoring Moment = 913.13 x ( 4.2 / 2 )

= 1917.57 KN-m

Factor Of Safety = 1917.57 / 410.46 = 4.67 > 1.6 Hence O.K.

3 For Factor Of Safety Against Sliding :

Sliding Force = Horizontal shear @ base of eqpt

= 43.97 KN

Resistance to sliding = coeff. of friction between concrete & soil ( m ) x Downward stabilizing force

= 0.3 x 913.13 = 273.94 KN

Factor Of Safety = 273.94 / 43.97 = 6.23 > 1.6 Hence O.K.

4 For Factor Of Safety Against Uplift :

Uplift Force = Uplift due to wind + Uplift due to internal pressure

= 64.14 + 0 KN

= 64.14 KN

Resistance to uplift = 0.7 x ( Dead load ) - Buoyancy force

= 0.7 x ( 0 + 1278.38 ) - 365.25

= 529.62 KN

Factor Of Safety = 8.26 > 1.2 Hence O.K.

SAMPLE CALCULATIONS FOR GROSS PRESSURE CHECK :

Note : 1. Sample calculation has been provided only for one load combination i.e Equip. Operating + Wind.
For other load combinations, calculations have been done on similar lines.

2. Calculations for net pressure check is carried in the same manner as gross pressure check except that soil
overburden is not taken into account.

1 Downward vertical load = Dead load (Operating) + Weight of pedestal + LL

( For Gross Maximum Pressure Check )

= 750 + 1278.38 + 0

= 2028.38 KN

2 Downward vertical load = Dead load (Operating) + Weight of pedestal

( For Gross Minimum Pressure Check ) - Buoyancy Force

= 1663.13 KN

Moment ( M ) = 410.46 KN

3 Max. gross pressure (s, max)Gross = 2028.38 / 14.61 + 410.46 / 7.49

= 193.64 KN/m2

4 Min. gross pressure (s, min)Gross = 1663.13 / 14.61 - 410.46 / 7.49

= 59.03 KN/m2

DESIGN OF PEDESTAL REINFORCEMENT:

Note :

1. The pedestal is designed as a cantilever member, hence effective length = unsupported length x 2.

leff = effective length of the pedestal = Total height of pedestal x = 7000 mm

b = least lateral dimension = 4200 mm

leff / b = 1.67 < 3

Hence The Pedestal Is Designed As Short Compression Member.

2. The pedestal is designed as structural plain concrete and relevent clauses for the design
are followed from IS-456-2000, Clause 26.5.3.1,h

Vertical Reinforcement :

Minimum reinforcement = 0.15 % of cross-sectional area of pedestal

= 21915 mm2

cross sectional area of octagonal pedestal = 14610000

Area of one bar of 16 mm dia bar = 201 mm2

SAMPLE CALCULATIONS FOR STABILITY CHECK :

Note : Sample calculation has been provided only for one load combination i.e Equip. Empty + Wind.
For other load combinations, calculations have been done on similar lines.

1 Downward stabilizing force = Dead load (Erection or Empty) + Weight of pedestal - Buoyancy Force (B)
( For Stabilty Check )

= 0 + 1752.98 + - 649.25

= 1103.73 KN

2 For Factor Of Safety Against Overturning :

Overturning Moment = Moment @ base of eqpt + Horizontal shear @ base of eqpt x Z

where Z = lever arm = pedestal ht above FGL + foundation depth below FGL

= 309.98 + 43.97 x ( 2.7 )

= 428.7 KN-m

Restoring Moment = 1103.73 x ( 5.6 / 2 )

= 3090.44 KN-m

Factor Of Safety = 3090.44 / 428.7 = 7.21 > 1.6 Hence O.K.

3 For Factor Of Safety Against Sliding :

Sliding Force = Horizontal shear @ base of eqpt

= 43.97 KN

Resistance to sliding = coeff. of friction between concrete & soil ( m ) x Downward stabilizing force

= 0.3 x 1103.73 = 331.12 KN

Factor Of Safety = 331.12 / 43.97 = 7.53 > 1.6 Hence O.K.

4 For Factor Of Safety Against Uplift :

Uplift Force = Uplift due to wind + Uplift due to internal pressure

= 79.23 + 0 KN

= 79.23 KN

Resistance to uplift = 0.7 x ( Dead load ) - Buoyancy force

= 0.7 x ( 0 + 1752.98 ) - 649.25

= 577.84 KN

Factor Of Safety = 7.29 > 1.2 Hence O.K.

= 2852.98 KN

2 Downward vertical load = Dead load (Operating) + Weight of pedestal

( For Gross Minimum Pressure Check ) - Buoyancy Force

= 2203.73 KN

Moment ( M ) = 428.70 KN

3 Max. gross pressure (s, max)Gross = 2852.98 / 25.97 + 428.699 / 17.75

DESIGN OF PEDESTAL REINFORCEMENT:

1. The pedestal is designed as a cantilever member, hence effective length = unsupported length x 2.

leff = effective length of the pedestal = Total height of pedestal x = 5400 mm
