LISTENING
There is more to learning than the pages of textbooks and it’s possible
to do things differently. Outdoor learning is a great way to motivate
teens.
2. Go to the forest and show teens some curious objects – an old 5__________ or a set of keys, for example
– and ask them to tell 6__________ which include these objects. They will surely improve their7 __________.
3. In gardens, parks and open spaces, dig into the ground, look under leaves and ask children to identify
8__________ and trees, birds and other 9__________.
4. Ask teens to do research and find 10__________ about places and local buildings in their city – libraries,
businesses, natural parks – as well as famous local people.
3. In gardens, parks and open spaces, teens can learn to use maps and find…
a. a hidden animal. b. a hidden treasure. c. a hidden plant.
5. It’s important for younger teens to take the time to look at…
a. the screens of their computers. b. the apps of their mobile phones. c. the world and describe it.
Anne: Teachers’ ability to show they care about students is important. My English teacher reads with
a very good expression and makes it realistic. Every time we read a book she gets us to act it out in
groups. That helps us to understand it.
Michelle: I like teachers who care about their students and notice when things are not going well. I was
bullied at primary school because I was small for my age and I cried easily, but now teachers look out
for me.
Niamh: My school is a strict school, but my teachers are very friendly. We can’t bring in mobile phones
or tablets, even in our bags. It was strange at first, being without my phone all day, but now I really like
it. When you go into town with your friends you’re checking your phone and seeing what people are
posting all the time. In school you can be with your friends and actually talk to them!
Ben: I think it is very important when teachers put in a lot of time and effort on the clubs to give us
extra help. I enjoy going to the drama club because it boosts my confidence. The teachers are very
enthusiastic.
Thomas: I am thinking about becoming a teacher – either of geography or design and technology.
Teachers here motivate students to work harder and that’s what I call a good teacher – someone who
helps you to do well in exams, so you can have a good career and a good life.
