Dear Families,
Thank you so much for taking the time to review this important information. During the first few weeks of
school we will be covering general rules, expectations, procedures, establishing routines and building our classroom
community! In addition, the students will also help to create a few of our own classroom rules and agreements
that all students in H-7 should follow and carryout throughout their school day.

General Rules /Expectations: j

1. Listen and follow directions quickly.
2. Raise your hand for permission to speak or leave your seat.
3. Respect your classmates and your teacher.
4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
5. Keep your dear teacher happy.

Consequences: L

Infraction: Consequences:
1. Breaking a rule for the 1st time Verbal Warning
2. Breaking a rule for the 2nd time Teacher Conference & Student logs behavior in “Behavior Book”*
3. Breaking a rule for the 3rd time Phone Call to Parent & Loss of Recess

Severe disruptions/offenses: Immediate Referral to Office

(Class A & B offenses)
*A behavior notebook is a whole-class management technique for recording classroom misbehaviors that integrates student reflection & ownership. Each
student has their own page, and they are all stored in a binder in a given location in the classroom. When a student does not follow a classroom rule or
procedure, they record the infraction in the notebook on their individual page. This allows behaviors that disrupt the learning environment to be addressed in
an efficient and non-punitive manner, without having to interrupt instruction. In addition this ensures accountability and documentation for all students.

Rewards: R

Whole class reward:

SCRABBLE: The class has a chance to earn rewards by following the rules. ALL students must be in compliance in
order to earn a class reward. At the end of each well-behaved class period, a scrabble tile will be drawn to spell
out a classroom reward (Movie Day, Park Day, Lunch (in the classroom) and Class party (Class parties can only
be earned once per quarter). Once the reward is spelled, the whole class gets the reward!

Table points:
Students earn table points each week. The table with the most points on Friday will enjoy their lunch in the
classroom with Ms. Pang and watch an age appropriate TV show on Netflix or cable TV.

Individual rewards:
STAR STUDENTS: Students can earn a STAR each day by turning in all homework and assignments on time, getting
their planner signed, exhibiting positive behavior(the 6 pillars), following classroom rules. Student must meet all
expectations in order to receive a star for the day. After the student earns 5 stars, they will earn a reward
coupon which can be redeemed for: homework passes, lunch bunch, a snack and so much more!

TICKETS: Tickets can be used once a month at the “class store”. Students will be able to “buy” prizes from the
store with their tickets. Tickets will be given out once a week for signed planners.Tickets can also be earned
during special occasions that occur in the classroom (games, academics etc.).
Homework Policy M
Students will have daily homework. No homework will be given on the weekend except for extended
projects, unfinished classwork(that is still incomplete after having ample class time), and unfinished homework.

Regular Weekly Homework Assignments will include:

••Spelling (to be done in spelling composition book)
One Language Arts/Social Studies/Science assignment
••One Math assignment
Online homework - (ReadingPlus & Moby Max)
•Parent initial in planner
Homework reflects GLO #1: The ability to be responsible for one’s own learning. Being RESPONSIBLE about
homework is essential in establishing good study habits. Homework is given to provide students independent
practice and to promote responsibility and accountability.

Therefore, unless excused, students must turn in all assignments ON TIME.

If homework is not completed due to ILLNESS or EMERGENCY, a parent’s note should be sent with the
child or written into the Student Planner. Depending on the circumstances, assignments should then be
turned in on the following day.
• Students who do not complete assignments will call their parents to inform them of the problem of not
completing homework and will complete the assignment during first recess.

“Forgotten Assignments”:
The following strategies are given to students to prevent assignments from being “left at home” or “left
at school”: 1. Ample opportunities to copy homework assignments. 2. A review of homework assignments.
3. Reminders to clean out the mailbox tray, to check the Student Planner, and to check backpack for the
necessary materials.

• The consequence for “forgotten assignments” will be to stay in the classroom during recess to
complete assignments and/or sent home for homework.

All assignments must be neat, legible and meet all of the assignment criteria (GLO #4: I can recognize and
produce quality products).
• Assignments that are poorly done will not be accepted and will be returned.
• Students must redo the assignment(s) during recess and/or for homework.

Grading
Assessments, classwork and homework are scored using this scale:
o A (Advanced) 90%-100%
o P (Proficient) 75%-89% (Target)
o PP (Partially Proficient) 60%-74%
o N (Novice) 0%-59%

o Assessment folders will be sent home weekly (Fridays) and must be returned on MONDAYS or next school
day.
o Grades are also available for viewing on online at learnboost.com.
Grading cont.
Please keep in mind that report cards are a standards-based grading. Meaning that by the end of the year/
quarter (depending on the standard) the students should be at least proficient (MP) in each standard (content
area). Grades are not determined by an average of test scores, but rather a progression of how the student
performs towards the ending of each quarter.
