Application, Network Plan

This document describes a network plan for a small office. The network uses a star topology with Ethernet Cat5 cabling. It connects 6 computers, 6 phones, a printer, a router, wireless modem, and switch. The switch connects all devices and directs traffic. The router routes traffic between the network and internet, which is accessed via the wireless modem. The document concludes that the office likely does accounting/bookkeeping and the network must support increased demands from connected devices, streaming, and smart technologies to remain innovative.

Nodes of Star networks are located in a manner that takes a star shape. The above

diagram illustrates an Ethernet Cat e 5 star topology for a small peer-to-peer network. The office

network comprises of six computers, six phones, one printer, router, ISP cable, wireless modem,

and a switch. The networking devices in use in the diagram are the switch, modem, and the

router. The switch connects all the devices together on the network to receive, process, as well as

forward information to the different devices within the network. The router routes traffic from

device to the next. It directs different traffic from the network to diverse directions (Shekhar,

2017). The modem is used to get internet connection from the cloud/ISP. The cloud is basically

the internet. Since the office is using a 100 Mbps Ethernet, the cable used is category 5 UTP. The

router and the computers are connected to the switch using a Straight-through cable. The printer

is connected to the computers through an USB cable. The wireless modem is connected to the

router through the cable modem (Ashraf, n.d.).

Conclusively, my assumptions on the type of work being done is accounting and

bookkeeping. There are a number of demands that the personnel will put on the network. For

example, other than connecting office computers, the personnel will also be connecting their

laptops and other internet of things-connected devices. Furthermore, to be innovative as well as

tap into the latest trends, the personnel may install the greatest and latest smart technologies.

Smarter and more devices mean more content that requires the office to have a stronger network

with the capacity to handle video, big storage of data, streaming, and social platforms.

Otherwise, the network may fail to support the demands of the employees (Walden, 2015).
