Note:
In an application scenario where four ODUs must be used, a four-in-one IF cable can
be used as required. The methods of IF cable-end making, installation, grounding, and
waterproof treatment described in this manual are also applicable to the four-in-one IF
cable.
To ensure that an IF cable can operate properly, both ends of the cable must be labelled
to specify the relation between the two ends.
Note:
RMU has two types: RMUC ,Radio Modem Unit D (RMUD,RMUE and RMUH).
In an area with frequent thunder and lightning, you are recommended to install a lightning
arrester on the IDU IF interface. One end of the IF jumper should be connected to the IDU
IF interface and the other end should be connected to one end of the lightning arrester.
The other end of the lightning arrester should be connected to the IF cable.
4-9
Context
Caution!
l The maximum IF cable (5D-FB types) length between IDU and ODU is 150 meters
(RG-8U IF cable is 300 meters, The RG-8U is recommended for 2048 QAM and upper
modulation).
l To protect the N-type connector, installation personnel can only use hand or torque
wrench to fasten the N-type connector. The N-type connector can be a straight
connector or a bending connector.
l To protect the N-type connector and IF interface, it is prohibited to use the N-type
connector of IF cable or the IF interface of ODU as a fulcrum when routing or bending
the IF cable.
Steps
1. In accordance with the designed distance between the IDU and an ODU, cut the IF
cable with a margin from three meters to five meters.
2. Make connectors of the IF jumper and the IF cable. After the connectors are made,
take appropriate protection measures to protect the connectors from being damaged
during the hoisting or cabling process.
4-10
Caution!
The two bent ends of the IF cable should be fixed.
b. Route the IF cable indoors. For operation details, refer to “4.5.2 Routing the IF
Cable Indoors”.

Context
l If the antenna is installed on a metal tower, the down-lead of the grounding clip must
be routed downwards along the metal tower.
l If the antenna is installed on the roof of a building, the down-lead of the grounding clip
must be routed towards the lightning protection net on the building roof.
l The following describes the antenna grounding requirements:
à If the antenna is installed on the metal tower, the IF cable should be grounded at
a point about 1-2 m below the ODU, and then be grounded at a point 1.5 m before
the bent part where the cable is routed downwards along the tower. Before the
IF cable is led into the equipment room, the cable must also be grounded at a
grounding point.
à If the IF cable is shorter than 20 m, it must be grounded at the first two grounding
points, as mentioned above.
à If the IF cable is longer than 20 m but shorter than 60 m, it must be grounded at
the three grounding points, as mentioned above.
à If the IF cable is longer than 60 m, an additional grounding point must be made
for every additional 20 m IF cable.
Caution!
The outer conductor of the IF cable must be well grounded where the grounding clip is
installed.
After the grounding clip is installed, the outer corrugated conductor of the IF cable must
be sealed completely, without water leakage or air leakage.
Steps
1. Select a proper position to install the grounding clip, and cut the IF cable sheath
in accordance with the grounding clip size. Figure 4-15 shows the structure of the
grounding clip.
4-15
2. Route the down-lead of the grounding clip connected by the IF cable towards the
grounding network, and verify that the included angle between the grounding cable
and the IF cable must be not more than 15°.
3. Waterproof and seal the connection part between the grounding clip and the IF cable
in "1+3+3" mode, which involves one layer of PVC insulating tape, three layers of
waterproof cement, and three layers of insulating tape.
