Microsoft released its first version of Windows in 1985 called Windows 1.0 and continued developing new versions that improved the graphical user interface and expanded features. Windows 8 was released in 2012 bringing a new touch-optimized interface designed for tablets in addition to PCs. Over almost 30 years, Windows evolved from Windows 1.0 to become one of the most widely used operating systems in the world today with Windows 8 being the most recent version.
