Electrical Power Hints
The Grid Supply Point contains assets that are managed by the Distribution Network Operator (DNO)
but are paid for by Network Rail. Typically, these sites will contain transformers (e.g. 132/25kV)
and/or switchgear that is used to provide electrical AC power at 25 kV and isolation facilities.
The site of Line side Equipment arranged together for the purpose of providing remote switching of
the power supply to overhead line equipment. This can include Feeder Stations, Track Sectioning
Cabins and Track Sectioning Locations (substations equipped with busbars and circuit breakers
providing some or all of the functions of sectioning and of connecting the contact lines in parallel,
including possibly any line feeders converging on it).
TRANSFORMER-AUXILIARY
A static device for altering voltage and/or number of phases with a rating above 10 kVA. These are
either air-cooled or oil-cooled.
A transformer in which at least two windings have a common part. Devices that transfer electrical
energy from one circuit to another through inductively coupled conductors—the transformer's coils.
These are either air-cooled or oil-cooled.
Energy Metering
Devices for measuring the consumption of electrical power for billing purposes.
Harmonic Damper
A Device located at specific intervals along the track to prevent the export of harmful harmonics
derived from traction units, beyond the confines of the railway.
Harmonic Filter
A Site specific device to prevent the export of harmful harmonics (e.g. 3rd. & 5th.) beyond the
confines of the railway system.
HV Switchboard
Virtual Asset comprising: Traction Busbar (BB120), JY - HV Circuit Breakers, o Protection & Control
Devices (JU100) , Voltage Transformer Protection (JZ140).
Earthing System
Systems that exist to safely earth an electrical installation including any conductors and electrodes
that are connected to the general mass of earth by means of rods, mats, or plates.
