1. The document describes a performance task to create a vegetation map of a school campus. Students were assigned areas and plants to map and then compiled individual maps into a composite map showing plant distributions. 2. The map uses symbols to represent different plant types - trees, vines, herbs, and grasses. It shows the locations of common plants around the school. 3. The completed map found that carabao grass and Bermuda grass were most abundant, while some trees and vines were least numerous. Plant distributions were uneven since most of the school is paved.

2. To make an inventory of plants in the campus
3. To list the vegetation on the section map
4. To draw the vegetation using symbols

Materials

Map of observation area Color pencils/Crayons Camera

Notebook Pen/Pencil

Procedure

1. Study the map given. Familiarize yourself with your section assignment. The group leader will assign each
member a plant species to be mapped.
2. On the map, draw the symbols for all plants you observed based on the key. Follow the colored symbols
on your map. Include features other than plants like bare soil, footpath, bog, and rocks.
3. In drawing the symbols, use sharp pencil first, then color as shown in the key.
4. Back in the lab, the group leader will collect the vegetation maps of the members and copy on one section
map all the vegetation plotted. This section map is submitted to the overall leader.
5. The overall leader will record all the section maps into one composite vegetation map of the area.

Note: 1. All plants indicated in the different area maps will be listed in Table 1.
2. All plants indicated in the table must be photograph and paste it on the other

map where the STAR legend which represents the trees.
5. Which sub-area map contains the most number of different colors?
The sub map-area map which contains the most number of legends is the front area of the school.

6. Which sub-area map contains the least colors?

The sub-area map which contains the least number of legends is the offices/canteen area.

Generalization: Describe the vegetation map you have constructed.
