Semi Detailed Lesson Plan Final

This lesson plan aims to teach students about assembling and disassembling a computer system unit. It outlines the key parts of a system unit like the motherboard, CPU, hard disk drive, and their functions. The lesson proper involves demonstrating how to correctly assemble the various components of a system unit in 10 steps, including inserting drives, motherboard, RAM, wiring, and closing the casing. Students are then evaluated by being grouped to practice assembling and disassembling an actual system unit.

A Semi - Detailed Lesson Plan in Computer

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, most of the student should be able to:

 Identify the important parts of system unit and their functions

 Perform assemble and disassemble of the System Unit

II. Subject Matter

Topic:
System Unit
References: Ronaldo v. Ramilo (2014) ICT Computer Hardware Servicing page 6-10
Materials: laptop, projector, PowerPoint, System Unit

Values to be learned: Appreciation and Cooperation

III. Procedure
A. Preparation (2mins)
Greet the students, prayer, ask them to set properly and checking of attendance.

B. Motivation (3mins)
Compare system unit to body system.

C. Lesson Proper (20mis)

SYSTEM UNIT main part, processing unit and devices, of a microcomputer is a
system unit.A system unit includes a board called a motherboard that holds a
microprocessor chip (or a CPU), memory chips, and expansion slots. Electronic
circuitry is printed on the board and it connects between two main parts of a
microcomputer, the microprocessor and primary storage and other parts.
Parts of the Computer System Unit
Hard disk drive - is a data storage device that uses magnetic storage to store and
retrieve digital information using on or more rigid rapidly rotating disk coated with
magnetic material.
CPU - is the center of your computer. It processes instructions and communicates
with outside devices, controlling most of the operation of the computer.
MOTHERBOARD – is the central printed circuit board (PCB) in many modern
computer and hold s many of the crucial components of the system, while providing
connectors for other peripherals.
Power Supply –
video card - is an expansion card with generates a feed output images to a
display.
D. Application (20mins)
How to Assemble Computer System Unit
Step 1. CD-ROM drive
From the front cover, slide in the CD-ROM drive at the top most available 5 ¼
inch slot or opening. Slide it in until the front of the CD-ROM aligns with the front of the
computer case. Then screw it securely.
Step 2. Hard disk drive
Place the hard disk drive inside the computer case. Align the screw poles to the
case rails and screw them securely. Remember to differentiate the top and the bottom
part.
Step 3. Motherboard
Place the motherboard near the power source and screw it in place. Remember to
align the ports behind the tower. There should be at least six screws.
We are actually placing the motherboard after putting in the drives so the
motherboard wouldn’t be in the way of the drives when they are being put in.
Step 4. Microprocessor
An indicator can be seen in the microchip and at the place where it is supposed to
be seated at one of its edges. It can be checked if the microprocessor is correctly
placed if it sits in without force. Then, lock it in place with the lever.
Step 5. Fan
Put in the fan with as less force as possible and lock it in with its given locks.
Remember that the levers are facing towards opposite directions. Don’t forget to connect
the fan’s wiring!
Step 6. Video card
Put the video card in its proper place on the motherboard located near the back of
the computer case. Then there, secure it with a screw on the back case to hold it in place.
Step 7. RAM
Line the memory in its designated socket which can be determined by its length.
It automatically locks in if the RAM is placed correctly.

Step 8. Ribbon Cables (floppy disk and cd-rom drive, hard disk drive)
Attach each ribbon from the floppy disk drive, CD-ROM drive and hard disk
drive to the motherboard. There are a total of three pairs of ribbons in the PC. The end of
the partly twisted ribbon goes to the floppy drive. The other ribbons can be checked
where to go by looking at their indicators and their length.
Step 9. Wirings/ power connectors/ power cables
A power connector is to be connected from the floppy disk drive, CD-ROM drive
and hard disk drive to the motherboard. It can be determined where to put in the
connection by its length and key indicator. Note that in some casings, there may be
excess wirings depending on what you need.
Don’t forget those wirings for your switches (power, reset), power LED, and
speaker. These may get a bit confusing where to place. Check the mother board up close;
it should have small words written on it. It will indicate which wire should go to which
pin.
Step 10. Close the casing
To close the whole tower, slide in the casing then screw it in place. Now just plug
it in and the CPU tower is ready to use!

IV. Evaluation (15mins)

Group the students into 2 groups and perform assemble and disassemble of system unit.
V. Assignment

Write it on a 1 whole sheet of paper.
