Sikagard® 63N
High Build, Chemical Resistance Epoxy Resin Coating

Description A two component solvent-free high build coating material based on epoxy resins.
Uses As a heavy-duty abrasion-resistant coating material designed to afford maximum

Sikagard 63 N is suitable for use on :
■ Concrete, stone.
■ Cementitious mortars and renderings (not polymer-modified)
■ Epoxy cement (Epocem).
■ Asbestos cement.
■ Epoxy mortars.
■ Iron and steel (sandblasted).
■ Aluminium (etched or sandblasted).

For linings to :
■ Storage tanks
■ Silos.
■ Catchment pits/overflows for oil and petrol.

For anti-corrosion coating in :


■ Electroplating plants.
■ Sewage works.
■ Farms and agricultural enterprises.
■ Chemical works.
■ Enclosed areas exposed to radiation.

Also used to from glassfibre-reinforced self-supporting epoxy coating with crack


bridging properties on:
■ Bund areas (for oil and petrol) and storage tanks

Advantages ■ Solvent-free
■ Good chemical resistance
■ Good mechanical strengths.
■ High-build formula
■ Cures without shrinkage.
■ Easy to mix and apply.
■ Can be applied by brush or roller.
■ Safe to use in contact with foodstuff.
■ May be used (with glassibre mesh) to form a protective membrane with crack
bridging properties.

Coverage ■ 0.3 - 1.0 kg/m per coat, depending on condition of substrate and thickness of
coating required
■ For a theoretical dry film thickness of 100 microns (0.1 mm) coverage works out

approximately 0.15 kg/m

Instruction for Use
Surface Preparation ■ The substrate must be clean and free from all traces of loose material, oil and
grease.
■ Very smooth or soiled surfaces should be abraded by grit-blasting or grinding
then thoroughly cleaned to remove all dust. A sealer coat of Sikagard 720
EpoCem or Sikafloor 81 EpoCem should then be applied, after first making
good any major surface defects (broken or honeycombed concrete, etc) with
Sikagard 720 extended patching mortar.

Mixing Open container Component B and add entire contents to Component A. Mix
thoroughly with an electric stirrer, taking care to entrain as little air as possible.
Leave mixture to stand for approximately 3 minutes before applying.

Application By brush or roller


Cleaning Clean the tools and equipment immediately after use with Colma Cleaner. Once
hardened, the material can only be removed mechanically
Construction

Limitations ■ Apply to dry substrates only


■ Maximum moisture content 4 % (or use Sika EpoCem system)
■ Steel and iron surfaces must be sandblasted (SAE 2.5).
■ Maximum humidity not to exceed 85 % (incl. overnight).
■ Substrate temperature must be 3°C above measured dew-point.
■ Cementitious substrates must be at least 4 weeks old (except Sika EpoCem).
■ Waiting time between coats should not exceed 48 hours other wise surface must
be abraded before recoating.
■ Minimum thickness of coating for effective anti-corrosion protection under severe
conditions: 0.6 mm (at least 2 coats on steel, 3 coats on mineral based
substrates no pinholes or air bubbles).
■ Not for aesthetic purposes
■ Will yellow when exposed to direct sunlight

Cautions ■ The presence of oxidized acids and chlorine causes severe discoloration
Exposure to weather and UV can result in severe discoloration and slight
efflorescence. Neither condition has any adverse effect on the protective function
of the coating.
■ Epoxy resins and hardeners may cause irritation of the skin and/or mucous
membranes in sensitive persons. If the material accidentally splashed into eyes,
flush immediately with plenty of warm water and seek medical attention without
delay. The use of good-quality skin barrier cream is recommended before
starting work. Wear gloves and goggles when mixing the two components and
applying (particularly important when using spray equipment)
■ In liquid state Comp A and Comp B contaminate water
Do not dispose of into water or soil but according to local regulations
